Now that it's up and running, I think it's fantastic! We knew nothing about Installation. The instructions were pretty much worthless. We watched numerous YouTube videos. Some help, although not enough. All said and done, we're really happy with the final product. Now, in the midst of a heatwave, we have zero regrets. Be prepared, there will be extra expenses. We had to hire an electrician and we did have a heating and cooling guy to make sure that everything was up to code. Also, to make sure that your electrical can handle the extra drain that this will put out. There are many options to chose from. Great mini split! ... show more

Now that it is fully installed it is a very nice system and great value. I own three Daikin Mini Splits and two systems I had installed and this one I purchased from this seller on Amazon. Took two days since this is the first one but overall not hard to install yourself if you have the ability and tools. Saves about $1,600. It came from Florida truck freight in less than a week (I'm in the Northwest) so this is very fast. The only special tool it needs to install is a vacuum pump to purge the system and check for leaks before releasing the Freon. That being said I did have a couple of minor problems. The seller failed to include the wall channel trim but they shipped it right away after I let them know. Still created a week delay but it is a nice kit in Almond color that they sent. The other problem is that they include a 4 wire 14ga harness that goes from the outside unit to the inside. This harness had preinstalled spade ends on one side and it had a broken connection, so when I went to install it the inside unit would not turn on and I thought it may have been defective. I called the seller tech line and they help me find the problem quickly. I checked both sides and came up with 120v for both wires but they told me to check between the two hots to make sure I had 240v and I did not. All it took was a quick fix with a new crimp connector and the unit came to life and worked perfectly. So I guess I would suggest to check the preinstalled ends or just maybe replace all of them to make sure. The Freon lines were flared and 15 feet long just like they say in the ad. But they were too long for my needs so I had to cut them shorter and do single flare, very easy to do. The Daikin instructions even address this. This unit is a bit funky for the inside unit case. Hard to flip the cover up and feels pretty fragile. For about $300 more you can get the 18seer unit that has a much better inside case but for my needs it is just great and I like saving money and I could not see where going from 17 to 18 seer was worth the extra cost. Other than this you need a AC outside disconnect box protected by a 20amp fuse and 12-2 wire, and a power whip. I also like to add a Mars 83905 HVAC Surge Protective device that will protect the electronics. I purchased all these from Amazon. I installed the 18,000 unit but this will also be okay for the 24,000. I think the smaller units needs 15amp protection. Overall 5 stars all the way for both value and customer service. ... show more

Had this installed by a pro. Bought the 18k btu unit with the full kit, line set, comm. cable, mounting bracket, etc. I ended up mounting the outdoor unit on a pad instead because it’s kind of a big unit. all the kit parts we’re good except I think the line set cover is a little too small to cover up the actual lines- you have to work to get it covered and it’s very tight. I bought this for a very small house 720 ft.² with high ceilings and two bedrooms. I didn’t get the multi zone unit thinking that the bedroom doors could be kept open. Overall I would say it doesn’t heat up the house as well as I thought it would because the different compartments of the house so I would say a unit like this is more suited to one large space. The outdoor unit is unbelievably quiet and the indoor unit is OK as far as sound is concerned. I would say this brand and the unit is well made. A/C installed without issue as described. Vacuumed the unit down, wired electrical and opened the valves. Works great. Learning to operate the "remote" is the most difficult part.

    • Not completely a DIY install

This is a really nice system overall. I installed most of it myself, but I will say that I wish it would have come with a nice template poster that would assist in the mounting process of the interior system like some of the other DIY systems do. I had to install my system very high on my wall and it wasn't easy to do. However the rest of the install was very easy. I connected the lines to the interior unit and then had a HVAC guy come out and vacuum out the lines and make the final connections. While I was hoping to not have to hire anyone to do this, It does make me feel more confident in the system. I got the 24k btu system and install it in my garage/wood shop. So far it seems to be working great. on a 95 degree day outside I can bring the temp inside the shop down to about 74 degrees in about an hour and a half and keep it there all day. One strange thing is that the ac never seems to turn off. I can't tell if it is just the fan constantly running or if is just needs to constantly run to keep the temp right. I do recommend this system, but please do your planning before you start and take your time. ... show more
