Wanted a dedicated tuner for my Taylor GS Mini, and considered one of the types that installs into the side of the guitar body. Not really needing a preamp, I decided to look at other options and decided to try this. Tuner is small and lightweight, but it seems to work well. At first I didn’t think it would work with my GS Mini due to the style of the bracing. After playing the location of the tuner, I found it fits well in the 2 o’clock position in the sound hole, and it’s still easy to use. Assuming it holds up over time, this is a great little tuner for my guitar.

Extremely low profile tuner is an absolute must have. Perfectly located in line of sight and visible through strings. Its always there and isn't the eye sore that clip ons are. I have one on my Taylor and its absolutely amazing. Doesn't affect the tone of the guitar at all and it is secure so I'm not worried that it will fall off (or in). Bright enough to be seen in any light, super accurate and easy to use. Just turn it on and let it do it's thing and for a great price. Get yours before they get smart and start charging more for these. Seriously, anyone with an acoustic guitar with a sound hole needs one of these. Period!

The D'Addario PW-CT-15 tuner is barely noticeable on my guitar, so I leave it installed for immediate use any time. It works great, because it's easy to read from the player's position and is more accurate than a headstock tuner. My guitar sounds better than ever when I use this tuner. I'm glad I wasn't scared away by the negative reviews posted by some users. Here is my take on the issues they raised: (1) Guitars come in all shapes and sizes. This will fit most, but not all. Before buying the tuner, make sure that the clip will fit on the wood around your sound hole. For example, it might be too snug if you have an extra layer of reinforcing wood around the underside of your sound hole or a thick pick guard very close to the hole. A flat area up to 6/16" from the edge of the hole and up to 2/16" thick should be fine. Some reviewers reported that the clip was too loose for them, but the current model has a metal spring that should hold the tuner in place on thinner tops. (2) Guitars also have different bracing patterns. Make sure yours has room for the tuner between the hole and the bracing. You need space for the shape of a triangle with the corners cut off about 1-3/8" wide (accross the hole) and about 3/4" deep. For example, in the Taylor line, it fits my Grand Auditorium guitar with X bracing, but it might not fit in a GS Mini or anything with V-Class bracing. [UPDATE: I got a new guitar and can confirm that it works fine on a Taylor GA with V-Class bracing if you put it in the 7:00 position instead of 6:00. You can still reach the power button and see it fine.] (3) Press the metal release tab to take the battery out without breaking the plastic tabs that also hold it in place. The manufacturer's video shows this clearly. (4) Install and remove the tuner carefully to avoid breaking the clip. This is easy to do, as shown in the manufacturer's video. For me, this is a fabulous upgrade at a very reasonable price.

I used the predecessor to this tuner on one of my classical guitars for a couple of years, and found it quite good. Easy to install, easy to use, accurate, unobtrusive, and with a good battery life. Unfortunately, after about 2 years the display began to fade, and replacing the battery didn't revive it. Still, I liked it enough to invest in this new model for a couple of my instruments. This new model is as accurate and easy to use as the older model. The original red/green display has been replaced with a full color display -- hopefully this new display will last longer than the old one did. the design is still simple, but installation has become a bit problematic. The older model remained where I had clamped it for 2 years without issue. For some reason the clip on the new design doesn't seem to want to hold the tuner in the guitar as well. About every 3rd time I turn it on or off, it comes loose and falls inside the guitar. I solved this problem by attaching some double-stick pads to the top of the tuner, that contact the inside of the top near the sound hole. I think if d'Addario put a couple of rubber pads on the surface of the tuner itself, in these same locations, the problem might be fixed, out-of-the-box. Regardless, it's a good tuner, at least worth 4-stars. If they improve the mounting clamp, it will be worth 5-stars.

This is my 3rd purchase of this tuner. Not because the other ones broke but because they are kinda awesome. They are so much better that a tuner that sits on your headstock. This tun er fits discretely inside the bottom of your soundhole. Works great, battery lasts forever. I heard concerns that this would scratch your guitar or discolor nitro finish guitars. Just not the case from my experience. Get ya one of these!

Ok... so this little tuner works, actually it works very well. But it has some drawbacks, which is why it gets 3 stars. The good: It’s tiny It sits behind the sound board generally, but not completely, out of the way when flatpicking. The bad: It uses a metal uncoated clip to hold in place. It does not take long for the spring effect to weaken and the tuner does not hold well. Any sort performance where the player is moving around will release the tuner. If you are lucky it will end up in the guitar and not on stage. It only took a couple of times taking the tuner on and off for it to mar the wood. Luckily I tried this first on a cheaper Taylor 114e. I had bought it for my HD28v. The Taylor is my beater stage guitar and I’m not concerned about damaging the sound hole area. The Martin is a different story. If you move around, play with an aggressive right hand or travel with your guitar. I cannot recommend this tuner over your basic clip on type.
