  • Great Strings
Style: Long Scale Size: Medium, 50-105
Comfort without sacrificing tone.

  • Best strings ever
Style: Super Long Scale Size: Medium, 50-105
I tried these strings for a fretless bass and at first I didn't like them.I soon fell in love with them. Smooth as silk, easy on the fingers. They have a dark warm tone you will get hooked on. They still have brightness but different from round wounds. I recently built a fretless bass and these are very easy on the fingerboard. They seem to be more articulate with the notes. Try these strings you will not regret it. ... show more

  • The classic tape-wound vibe.
Style: Long Scale Size: Medium, 50-105
If you're liking at these, you know what they're good for. They do the job for less dough than that other brand with the Italian sounding name.

  • Great wibbly wobbly strings!
Style: Long Scale Size: Medium, 50-135 (5-String)
I got these strings to try out flatwounds on my fretless 6-string bass and I'm so glad I did. These strings feel "right" on my bass. They strings are super flexible which makes bending the strings very low impact. I've actually noticed that when I go back to regular roundwound strings, it takes a lot more work to get the strings to behave the way I want. I'm not super experienced with different string types, but these ones are hands-down my favorites that I've used so far! Bonus points: The black nylon looks great on the instrument! ... show more

  • Nice strings
Style: Long Scale Size: Medium, 50-135 (5-String)
Put on a modulus 5 string flea bass. I’ve set it up to be my bass for thick and fat basslines and other basses for the fancy slappy trebly stuff. They are thicker gauge than I usually use but the lower tension makes them feel like normal. The wrap around the low B on the bridge side (the purple silk) was pretty fat and thick which made getting it through the bridge hole tough. Luckily it got in there but it was really close to not working for me. They sound great and they feel great. I’ve tried flatwounds a few times and always hated them but these have more high end content and feel better than Chromes. I hope they last a long time because a $50 pack of strings sucks to buy haha. If you’re looking for a flat wound alternative and want to setup a bass for a unique sound these are the way to go. I might get a 4 string set for my P bass eventually. ... show more

  • Does not fit on all Hofner Basses
Style: Medium Scale Size: Medium, 50-105
I bought these strings to try out on my German Hofner basses . I installed the G & D strings with no problem . When I got to the A & E strings they would not fit through the eyelit (hole) in the tuning pegs . The G & D sounded great ,but was unable to install the 2 remaining strings as the E & A strings were too thick to go through the tuning pegs. I gave these to a friend who had a Hofner Contemporary Bass, and a Hofner Ignition Bass . He had the same problem on his Contemporary Bass. The E & A strings would not go through the tuning pegs on A & E . So, we tried them on his Hofner Ignition Bass, and they fit with no problem going through the tuning pegs ! The strings sounded & felt really good on the Ignition Bass initially, but the string tension is VERY high (Very Tight ) .He played them for about 4 days ,and said they were really stiff & was afraid the tension might damage his bass. I played on his bass and the strings were very stiff, I noticed a slight forward bow in the neck, which wasn't there previously . Also made the tuners on the Ignition a bit loose. So, we took these DAddario strings off his Ignition bass .Botton line . These are vary heavy gauge strings,& I would not advise putting these on Hofner basses . Just my personal opinion . He bought a couple sets of LaBella Black Tape strings for his Hofner Contemporary, & Ignition basses. We installed them with no issues on both Hofners. The Labella Black Tapes sounded,& played great ! The low tension of the LaBella Tapes was awesome . These particular DAddario are a good string, but, not a good idea for a Hofner bass . The tension on the DAddario was at least 5 times greater then the the Labella Tapes . I have DAddario long scale tapes on my Fender P bass with no problem ,however the Fender is a tough, heavy bass . These DAddario would probably be a great string for a Gibson EBO ,or other solid body type basses of this scale ? ... show more

  • GREAT sound. Watch out for increased buzz.
Style: Medium Scale Size: Medium, 50-105
I bought the "medium scale" for my Mustang Bass (through-body bridge) and I'm thrilled to note that they fit perfectly. Silk on the E string starts about an inch past the nut, just before the tuning peg, so you can wind the E peg with all silk, as you're supposed to. I usually use LaBella Mustang Flats because they fit right, but I was getting tired of the sound, so I thought I'd try D'Addario medium scale since I heard they fit, and they sure do. They also have, apparently, almost identical tension to the LaBella Mustang Flats; I did not have to adjust the action on my bass after installing these. I'm also thrilled about the overall sound. I usually play flats so these are comparable, but since they are new have a great crisp fresh tone with lovely harmonics... even on the E string! The E string, to my delight, is one of the best sounding E strings ever, no tuning issues or muddiness -- a "B" played on the E strings sounds remarkably similar to a "B" played on the A string, which is frequently not the case; I expect that to get worse over time of course but right now it sounds awesome. One interesting thing about nylon wrap: I like to play with Finger-Ease lubricant, and on normal flats you can actually get them TOO slick... but somehow with these black nylon strings, no matter how much lube I put on, the strings always have just a little bit of friction... one could say, just the *right* amount of friction. A welcome surprise! The only bad thing is electronic buzz. The nylon prevents your fingers from making "grounding contact" with the guitar's electronics, so there is a slight buzz unless I brace the heel of my hand on the bridge. I tried to make my Mustang as electronically quiet as possible, but my practice room is awash in EMF; if I ground myself on the bridge, it's dead quiet, but if I don't ground there is a slight buzz. Disappointing but understandable that touching these string to play does not constitute grounding :( It is too bad there are so few correctly-fitting string sets for Mustang through-body basses. If Thomastik-Infeld made a set of their Jazz Flats for Mustang, I'd be in heaven, but from now on it's ether D'Addario medium-scale, or LaBella Mustang Flats... ... show more
