Bought this to replace an old Alienware Alpha. 1) I imagine that these are built in lots (judging from what information I have read) so this can be hit or miss ... I believe I hit. 2) Asus motherboard, actual name brand RAM solid main components used (I will have to eventually upgrade the ram but it has enough to get me going). I believe the cost savings is with the case, wiring, liquid cooling (brand used), and power supply utilized (rated at 600w non name brand). 16 gig of ram on a "VR" machine is low but its enough to start. I was worried (and judging from the questions asked most are) I would have a limitation here. Well I confirm I ramp it up to 64 gig (4x16 so yes there is four slots that accept ram 16 gig ddr 4 @ 3000hrz) which is ideally where it needs to be. Fans are quiet for now, but i suspect as times goes on they will get louder. The LED's on this unit seem gimmicky to me (i am old school .... its not a fish bowl) but can confirm that you can change the color scheme (as i noticed that on the lower units you cant from the reviews). Given the build, the major components, I don't think I could have pieced one together for the price (including the time out of my schedule). ... show more

    • Not at all what I expected !!!!
Returned this computer. Took it out of the box. Extremely well packed both outside and inside the computer. Set up the computer - running through all the Microsoft setup. Loaded Dashlane, Quicken and Chrome. Shut the box off and came back and fired it up. At that point the computer stopped working and my monitor started acting like a strobe light. My neighbor's 10 year old walked into my office and started to feel ill. We shut the box off and he felt better in 20 minutes. If I could I would have given this box zero stars. ... show more

Small scratch that went through the plastic cover into the tempered glass on arrival. Otherwise, the computer works like a charm right out of the box, didn't even need to re-seat any of the cards.

This guy does have a tendency to over heat and causes a shut down...was hoping that the liquid cooling would have helped this but doesnt seem to help at all

    • Cooling needs work.
15 minutes of Civilization V caused the PC to get too hot and blue screen (many times), taking the side glass allows it to get enough air to keep going past 15 minutes. I had it on 2" spacers and a hard surface and tried adding a top fan which didn't help. Will have to get a different case.
