  • CyberPower is not the company they used to be.
Style: 650VA LCD Pattern Name: UPS
The media could not be loaded. Stay Far Away! See video showing a failure that others have also reported where the unit reports OVERLOAD when clearly it can not be overloaded when you have NOTHING plugged in. If it can fail on something as simple as this...I am then concerned over the charing system...If that fails..you can be in for much larger issues as others have found out. ... show more

  • Research it thoroughly - This rating really should be a 5
Style: 850VA LCD Pattern Name: UPS
(I'm torn about my rating because the device does what it is supposed to.) I'm sure it is good so you don't get caught having everything shut down immediately in a outage. But this will not keep peripherals alone running very long. Don't be fooled like me by the title. I have four APC 650va 390 watts, model 650g1's backing up my security panel, router, ipCameras and other devices. One is used exclusively for my router. It runs the router for 240 minutes during an outage. Another with an an Ooma and a five port switch runs them for 420 minutes. Another with an ipCamera alone runs for 390 minutes. So I wanted to get something that would run my router a bit longer. I purchased this CyberPower 850va 510 watt unit and hooked it up. First use the LCD and software said it was 100% charged with 244 minute reserve. I assumed this was in error because it only lasted 46 minutes. 2nd attempt after a days charge: Once again the device showed LCD and software a 100% charged with 244 minute reserve. The power lasted 108 minutes and the backup quit when the battery reserve got to 65%??? 3rd attempt after a couple days charging: The LCD and software showed the same as above. I unplugged the device but this time I sat and watched the LCD reserve on the display quickly fall for 2 minutes to 44% before it leveled off. The unit ran for 105 minutes before shutting down. Another thing to note is the battery is smaller and much lighter than my APC units. The backup did not come with a CyberPower branded battery it is a generic battery The Cyberpower site also claims the battery is not replacable. I don't see why not. It was quite easy to in and get out for inspection. APC's come with their own branded battery I called Amazon and the rep was very nice and as helpful as she could offering to put me in touch with a CP rep but I'm not going to waste any more effort talking to the CP rep. I know how that will turn out. My fault, I didn't research this thoroughly enough. At first I believed at the very least the battery was about dead and device defective also but finally on a fourth test it ran a 100 watt light bulb exactly as long as they said it would? Hope this helps someone. ... show more

  • CAUGHT ON FIRE STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!
Style: 650VA LCD Pattern Name: UPS
Power went out yesterday and unit caught on fire. Thankfully i was standing right there. Interestingly enough when I called CyberPower today and said I had a unit that caught on fire the guy didn't even pause and just asked me for my address to send a warranty replacement. He wasn't phased at all that one of their products caught on fire. I then asked him if this is a common occurrence and he replied, it happens sometimes, units fail. That is SHOCKING to me. ... show more

  • Useless junk...
Style: 850VA LCD Pattern Name: UPS
I purchased two of these units about a year ago (December 2015). They really are garbage. Both have already required battery replacement. They can't handle anywhere close to the rated load - more like half of that: I would rate this as a 250 watt UPS, not a 510 - if I put 300 watts on it, measured with a meter, its software starts warning me that it's overloaded. On top of that, the one my home theater PC and Television are connected to tends to just shut itself off whenever there is any sort of power fluctuation (I don't mean an actual power outage, I mean just a less than 1 second "blip" in the power will cause it to just completely shut down, taking everything connected to it with it - a blip that the connected equipment probably wouldn't even have noticed if it weren't connected to this UPS.) Fortunately the one I have my desktop PC connected to doesn't seem to have that same problem, but it's still alarming to me that the battery did not even last a year in either of them. I'm writing this review now just as my home theater UPS shut down without warning yet again, in the middle of watching a movie. :-( The entire point of a UPS is to protect and increase the availability of the equipment attached to it. I have actually had MORE downtime of my connected equipment than I would have if I simply had it plugged directly into line power and not used a UPS. What a waste of money! ... show more

  • Product failed to perform twice, CyberPower passed the buck to Amazon who, thankfully, did cover the refund.
Style: 850VA LCD Pattern Name: UPS
I had some initial problems with my first unit, where it would shut down the PC for no apparent reason. The shutdown was a hard crash because it would not respond and had to be powered off without being properly shut down. After several of these spontaneous shutdowns I decided I did not want the unit since the whole idea was to avoid this kind of mishap. Even though Amazon does not take returns, they did send me a new second unit at no cost. This was within 30 days of purchase. CyberPower also responded to help but Amazon had already replaced the unit. Unfortunately, the same thing happened again with the second unit. This time I started changing settings on my (Dell) PC and -- to make a long story short -- it was the sleep-mode setting on my PC that seemed to be causing the problem. It appeared that when the PC went into sleep mode it would no longer wake up and subsequently had to be powered off without closing Windows. This had never happened before using the EC850LCD. This should obviously not happen but when I set the PC to never go into sleep mode, the problem never happened again. Not the perfect solution but it did work and I have had no further problems since. UPDATE: About a month later I started getting the same problems with the PC being shut down unexpectedly. I decided to not use the EC850LCD anymore since it causes more "power outages" itself than it would prevent from the power company. CyberPower will not refund it since it was sold thru Amazon, but Amazon came thru with a full refund. GO AMAZON!! ... show more
