Some automotive manufacturers install a special socket on the vehicle to be used for vehicle-to-trailer wiring. Although this special socket is not equipped on every vehicle, a CURT custom wiring connector -- also called a T-connector -- utilizes the socket for simple, stress-free installation. Rather than requiring you to cut, splice and solder into your vehicle's wiring system, the custom wiring connector uses a single OEM-compatible plug and instantly provides a standard, universal vehicle-to-trailer wiring connection, typically in the form a 4-way flat. I would have rather paid a couple more dollars for this kit and have it come with everything that's needed. I was disappointed when I opened the box and found that it did not include four additional fuses needed to make this work: two 7.5A and two 20A mini-fuses. Thankfully, Amazon's overnight delivery pulled through and I was able to buy an assortment of fuses that got to me before my trailer rental appointment. The wire harness was easy to connect up to my 2011 MDX. Just plug it into the fuse box located on the back left side and it’s pretty much ready to go. In the instruction, they wanted you to just leave the harness hanging out of back door hatch when in use and stow away in the back compartment when not in use. It doesn’t look very professional with wires hanging out the back door. What I did to keep all the wires hidden was route the wires thru existing manufacture pre-cut holes. There are also pre-cut holes to run your wire harness to the underside of the vehicle. To expose these pre-cut holes, you will have to remove the compartment door and carpet and also the plastic molding, (see pictures). There is also an existing bolt there that you can connect your ground to. These pre-cut holes has rubber cap covering them that you can pop off easily. I used these rubber caps and run my harness thru them to protect the wires from the sharp edges of the pre-cut hole. To run my harness thru the rubber cap, I had to cut a round hole out of the middle of the rubber cap and cut thru one side of the rubber cap then run my wires thru it. I used Duct Tape to give it a snug fit around the rubber hole. I also wrapped the wire with Duct Tape wherever it comes in contact with sharp metal edges. I hope this helps. I bought this because I didn't want to "hack" my factory wiring harness to add a 4 pin trailer wiring harness. The factory options where very expensive of course. This unit plugs directly into the factory wiring harness in the back of the MDX. All you need to do besides plug it in is connect the grounding wire to one of the easily accessible bolts near where it plugs in. Install took me literally 5 minutes and it is working perfectly. What I like about this versus "hacking" into the stock wiring harness is the trailer lights only work when the vehicle is running. Which is how it should be since the additional power draw could drain the battery unnecessarily when the vehicle isn't running. I am still amazed how easy it was to install this. I am very rarely impressed with aftermarket products but this one definitely impressed me. If you have a MDX and want a trailer wiring harness I can't recommend this enough. So simple to install and it works! ... show more
