This particular class 1 hitch offers a custom fit for certain years of the Hyundai Kona (except EV or N; to verify vehicle compatibility, see the application information or use the Vehicle Lookup tool). Our in-house testing technology allows for real-time, on-vehicle testing, placing our hitches under the same stresses present in actual towing conditions. This gives us the utmost confidence in each trailer hitch we make and provides you with a dependable tool to freely pursue your passions. Every CURT custom trailer hitch receiver -- from class 1 to class 5 -- is manufactured right here in the USA to ensure quality from design to finish (may include imported hardware). Our hitches are engineered using real vehicles and a hands-on approach. We fabricate our hitches using a combination of robotic and manual welding for optimum precision and speed. Finally, we finish each trailer hitch with a unique co-curing process. First, we immerse the hitch in a rust-resistant liquid A-coat to coat the entire piece inside and out. Then, a durable black powder coat is applied to seal out rain, dirt, road salt and other threats. Finally, these two coatings are co-cured together, creating an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant finish. To give you complete confidence mile after mile, all CURT tow hitches are backed by a limited lifetime warranty. • Great product - installation simple but not easy and instructions not detailed
I read reviews before buying and thought I would give a little more detail. - First I have a 2020 Kona SEL Plus. It fit great. The instructions covered everything but removing a plastic plate on the passenger side then reinstall afterwards which i think is new on a 2020 - but someone mentioned that in the reviews and it is pretty straighforward. You have to also move a wiring harness - that is in the instructions . - Second, installation is simple but not easy. The instructions are generic and you have to figure a lot out. There are 4 bolts and nuts and the car already has the holes. But they are in a frame tube with an access hole maybe 10-12 inches away and the whole trick is to use the fishing wires provided to pull the bolts from inside the frame thru the holes then out thru the holes in the hitch itself. The lack of detail is in using the fishing wires. First, you have to fish them thru first by themselves and it is not easy. THEN you attach the bolts and pull them thru. Once all bolts are thru, then you have to lift the hitch itself into place but you can put one side on top of the exhaust and pin it there. That makes it easier. Then as directed you lift the non-exhaust side up and pull the wires thru the hitch holes. Once that is done, weight is on at least ONE of the bolts. Then the trick is to get the fishing wires disconnected as you have to basically pull them off in a circular motion without getting the weight off of the bolt to hold it still. Once off, you get the nut on. I then kept switch sides and trying to keep weight on the bolt I was working on while getting the fishing wires off. So the fishing wires are the critical part - they just don't explain the details of using them. ... show more

  • Great hitch, difficult install
I’ve installed many hitches before and this one was far from easy. Due to the orientation of the bolts (they sit horizontal instead of vertical like most), it is very easy to lose them in the frame rail since you have to remove your fish wire to secure the nut. Was almost done with the install and I accidentally pushed a bolt thru while getting the threads started. I spent hours upon hours trying to retrieve my lost hardware but eventually did with a couple of stick magnets. Eventually got it sorted, but beware, if you lose any hardware, a replacement kit from a dealer is in the ballpark of 60 dollars since curt won’t sell them to you. The carriage bolts are a very custom size for the grade so you can’t track them down at a hardware store if you lose any. It’s best to make the effort to retrieve them. That said, after getting all the hardware fished out, and new fish wires ordered from amazon, I was able to get it installed with 2 additional sets of hands. It looks and functions great. The receiver tube is all you can see from the rear of the vehicle so it has a very factory appearance. Just wish the install would have been easier. ... show more

  • Curt hitches are a favorite
Curt are well made hitches, I have installed a few. This one was a bit odd pulling bolts through the frame with fish wires, but that is because the manufacture doesn't have weld nuts inside the frame. Pulling through the fish wires I used a magnet to capture the end easier. Add that to your installation guide. I also used a fish wire to hold the bolt in place with a loop near the hitch, to start thread the nut on to avoid losing it into the frame. the instructions are good, it took me an hour with some of my added tips to ensure an easy install. ... show more

  • Didn't go well for 2020 Kona AWD
Appears to be a nice sturdy hitch, I have used Curt before and have been very happy. My rating is concerning the install instructions and provided mount hardware. This hitch states it fits 2019 Kona (AWD or non AWD). I have a 2020 Kona AWD which is the same as the 2019. To prove my point, I found someone else in Hyundai forums having SAME EXACT problem installing a hitch on a 2019 Kona. The instructions say easy but not by a LONG shot! Maybe for the non AWD? The problem was the passenger side bolt closest to the bumper. All the other bolts, I was able to fish through with no problems. This last bolt I could only get it to pull in from a 45 deg angle and therefore, could not pull it all the way through the hole ( I tried and tried, with and without spacer). So, I bought a cheap inspection camera to see what was in the way and there is a ridge back there that doesn't allow enough space for the bolt to pull straight through the hole. (The ridge appears to be the rear bumper tow port). I cut the existing bolt to min length, still no dice. So, I ended up buying a smaller bolt and cutting it to minimum length and using a lock washer. I used the fish wire to pull a string through and then used the string to pull the bolt thru (I had string in both holes to make sure I could easily get bolt back out if first string came off). Not perfect but it is installed now. Looks like it will work as expected and I will be happy with it. *Note that using a smaller bolt probably affects the rating of the hitch, so, do at your own risk* I also needed to take the bottom screws and plastic rivets out of both rear wheel wells so I could see position of hitch holes to get bolts to pull through. It was especially needed on the passenger side to access the bolts with torque wrench. There is a third bolt hole a little higher and in between the 2 mount holes on the frame. I think they need a bracket that mates that hole to the hole in question since the middle hole doesn't seem to have any obstructions I have installed 3 hitches now. My 2006 Toyota matrix was super easy: 4 threaded bolt holes, raise hitch into position and screw bolts in. That is EASY! 2016 mazda cx-5, installed a Curt, had to fish bolts through like the Kona but everything went per instructions and was fairly easy (had to lower exhaust). This Kona was riddiculous. Hopefully this helps someone else or Curt updates thier mount hardware / instructions. ... show more

  • Great hitch but that installation….!
Hitch is well made. Instructions are pretty clear and easy to understand. Installation is a bear! I’ve installed other hitches where one bolt needed a fish wire but not all four! Not Curt’s fault, just the cars design. All but impossible install yourself so don’t try!
