Description

11473 Tags: Curt Manufacturing class 1 trailer hitches are the lightest-duty hitches of our rear mount receiver lineup. They are engineered for reliability, welded together with quality American steel and blasted clean for a smooth finish. Tested to meet the strict demands of the industry, this Curt Manufacturing class 1 hitch has a capacity to tow up to 1,000 lbs. of gross trailer weight and 100 lbs. of tongue weight. This means it can handle a variety of small trailers such as single-axle utility trailers, canoe and kayak trailers, dirt bike trailers and more. It can also accept a hitch- mounted cargo carrier or bike rack, making it a very useful addition to cars with limited cargo space (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc).Class 1 hitches feature a 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" receiver tube opening and are typically mounted on compact cars, full-size cars and some smaller crossover SUVs, minivans and compact SUVs. This particular hitch is designed to be a custom-fit trailer hitch for certain years of the Saturn Ion (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see the Curt Manufacturing application guide at curtmfg.com). It features a square tube frame and comes with a hitch pin and clip and all necessary installation hardware. Each Curt Manufacturing class 1 hitch is co- cured with a liquid Bonderite coating and a high-gloss black powder coat finish that provide a lasting defense against rust, wear and harmful UV rays. Like all Curt Manufacturing receiver hitches, this class 1 hitch is assembled right here in the USA and is backed by a one-year finish warranty and a limited lifetime warranty.

  • Sturdy trailer hitch receiver, fits 2019 Prius perfectly
No issues at all with the trailer hitch receiver. Installation is simple, once you manage to take off all the plastic bits under the rear bumper, but then you have to reassemble all the splash guards. Ugh! It took me about 3 hours, working alone. I think I struggled with the plastic clips that hold the splash guards and black part of the bumper cover the most. It's a ... show more

  • Custom Fit, but not simple
Much harder than the trailer hitch I installed on our 2015 Prius, which just bolts vertically into tapped holes in the body (first remove tow hitch from L side), with no plastic undershields in the way. This one, for our 2022 Prius Prime bolts between the bumper and body, but you can't just slide it in since the bumper has a finger sticking out at each mounting that you must beat flat (one reviewer didn't read instructions and cut hole in Curt hitch to pass that finger). Perhaps you could pry it flat in-place (unbolted), but instructions are to remove the bumper (not plastic bumper cover), which requires removing all the rear undershields (one just to get at a single trim screw each side). Must unclip a wiring harness under the cover and release clips that secure a cover trim piece. Must also make some opening in two undershields for clearance (can use sharp scissors or knife). Plan on at least 2 hours for your first time. Watch the Curt youtube. ... show more

  • Prius Prime trailer hitch
It did take some time but I knew it would. About 4 hours was the total time it took me having never done this before. I like the way it hides under the bumper. I wish it was a larger hitch receiver, but I was able to buy the adapter at Harbor Freight. Good product, good result. I am happy with my purchase. I am going to use it with the folding trailer that Harbor Freight sells. ... show more

  • Buy some toyota plastic clips
Took me 4 hrs to install. Not difficult. But taking the bumper off was a pain. The 14 plastic clips fight back. It would be smarter to buy new clips then try to reuse them. Then when pulling them out you can beat them up. It wouls have saved me 2 hours.

  • difficult install but doable
It fit my 2019 Toyota Prius perfectly. no drilling or cutting. I watched the youtube how to video from etrailer so not sure how the instructions are. it took me 2.5 hours to do it in the dark. I didnt use the bolts it came with. the factory ones fit for me. If you are doing the install yourself i would suggest buying a few replacement fasteners (i damaged almost all and actually broke 2) and a real metal trim removal tool. I own a plastic one and it just wasn't doing the job. I would also HIGHLY recommend getting a jack and jack stands. the Prius is just too low to comfortably do the job on the ground. it is doable but its going to suck more. Let me just say i have installed a tow hitch on every car i have owned and this was by far the most tedious and annoying install. It took me an hour alone to just get the stupid push fasteners off my bumper. and than another hour to get those damn clips off. the actual hitch install and button everything back up was about 30 minutes. A second person would absolutely make the job easier but i did it alone. I screwed one side of the tow hitch without the bumper over it to hold it in place and then the other side i screwed in the hitch and bumper together and then went back to fix the other side. made it easier with one person. I didnt take a picture but its pretty undercover. looks really. etrailer said its rated to tow something like 2000 lbs but I wouldnt be comfortable towing anything. I got it to hook up a cargo rack on the back for longer road trips. ... show more

  • Did not fit 2018 Prius prime - major pain in butt
Didn't fit my 2018 Prius prime in terms of width to fit the bumper brackets AND height in terms of bolt holes. Reached out to curt via web form on June 9th but no response as of today. Had to "customize" the fit as heck if I'm going to tackle taking off the Prius bumper again and return the heavy/bulky hitch. Mvp award goes to my angle grinder and notable mention to my hand file. This somewhat straightforward 2 to 3 hour install turned into a 6+ hour ordeal. Disclaimer - do not do what I did. ... show more

  • Fits 2021 prius prime
Worked well on my wife's 2021 prius prime. It is a 1 1/4 receiver so I had to convert it to a 2" (pictures attached). It hangs low due to all the gaps between each connection points. Do not drive it low! It is a P.I.T.A. to install. You will get frustrated if you are not savvy with cars.
