  • Finally not being left behind, had the Shawk, loaned it to Dad and bought the Panther.
Style: Black
Review of the Panther: Awesome machine. Goes fast, has a lot of power, battery lasts more than a day. Culver moved the recline to a manual side mount that is easy to reach and it is MUCH better than the power recline. I was worried, but it is a MUCH better design. Culver spread out the wheel base on the Panther, making it much more stable. I can now recline while driving. The lowest speed is good for slow walkers like my grandson. Speed two was great for keeping up with the guys in the airport. I know they say it is safe, but I took the battery out easily and carried it into the cabin anyway. First flight, we left the joystick on and it got a little bent, making it hard for me to see speed. My son muscled it back up with little problem. Return flight, we easily unscrewed the handle and trapped it between the seats then used bungee cords to lock it tightly in the folded position. We did need to fold the chair up to slide the joystick handle out, but it is also easier to take the battery out slightly folded as well. So, fold slightly, take out the battery, loosen the joystick screw, take it out, tighten the screw so as not to lose it. slide the joystick between padded seats, fold it down, bungee cord around middle, and one from the foot rest to the back, and we had a safe secure package for the airline to stow. It sounds like a lot, but all of that took less than 5 minutes and the folded wheelchair was ready to stow. Don't forget the bungee cords. We use them to tie our luggage together to make it easier to drag through the airport anyway. Return trip was a little wait as they had to retrieve it from the hold and bring it to us. Once they brought it, it was fast remove of the bungee cords, shove them in the bag, install the battery and joystick, unfold the chair and lock it, and we were rolling in about 5-7 minutes. Speed is sweet and since covid ate up all of my joints and my spine, I just cannot do that run through the airport. In this machine, my long legged men have to keep up with me. My son, 6'3" weighs about 300 pounds, and tried it. It went a little slower on take off which might be a good thing because it jumps out from under me. My battery may last a lot longer because of my lower weight and the chair is rated for a heavier person. Update to Shawk: I bought the Culver Shawk previously, and it was really great. Sometimes I would forget to hold the button long enough to transfer the joystick to power recline, and I ended up loaning it to my Dad who was fighting bone cancer. He loved it so much that the Dr made him stop using it when chemo got his cancer into remission. Dr made him go to therapy to get strong again. The only problem is that I must recline all the time due to spine issues, and the balance wasn't as good for reclined driving in the Shawk. I was able to go to Kennedy Space Center and Gatorland, to a warehouse to pick counters, and plan to go to more events later. I am scheduled for hip replacement soon. It zips around and I can keep up. Be aware that when you turn it on it goes to fastest speed so you have to learn to take the speed down before going. I was pure dangerous with this thing. I have spine issues so need the recline. Remember to straightne up a bit when driving and you will be fine. This is more freedom than I have had for a long time. I can get into tight places, and it turns on a dime. Good chair! ... show more

  • Wheelchair spins very quickly on its own without prior warning.
Style: Black
I was happy with this item, until it started to have a mind of its own, I will be driving straight and out of nowhere, the wheelchair spins in circles to the left extremely quickly. There is no forewarning. I have hit people and ran into a table where people were eating at a restaurant. I began contacting the company at the beginning of February; now almost 5 months later, I have not received a response. The emails basically say that they will check into it and get back to me. I have contacted them at least 5 times. It's now out of warranty. I have to quickly turn the power off when it begins spinning. It's the only way to make it stop. The company won't even provide any information on how to make this stop happening. Other than that, I like most of the aspects of the chair. I cannot recommend this product due to customer service and safety concerns. ... show more

  • UPDATED: Loud Voice, Damaged, No Support
Style: Black
The media could not be loaded. The original review is below but I wanted to note that customer support did respond and they say they are sending the damaged parts (I will update when I get them). They told me how to turn off that awful voice and back up sounds (just got to YouTube and add this to the address: watch?v=3NEVNk1g_k8 ) The video is for a different brand chair, but it works! Thank you! The chair works very well - I use a big expensive wheelchair but have to travel a lot over the next six months so I got this chair. It is light and easy to use. It is very comfortable and my back is a monster to make happy when sitting. So that is saying something. I added an AUVON Wheelchair Seat Cushion (sold here on Amazon) and that made it even better. The chair is fast! My bog chair goes 5.1 MPH and I think this Shawk is just as fast. It cost one tenth as much as my big chair so it isn't as smooth, but it is surprisingly good. The only other issue I have is that the remote will not synch with the chair. I emailed their tech support but have not gotten a response yet. I really don't are a lot about the remote so it wouldn't effect my score much. And if they replace the damaged parts, I will give it five stars because it really is a good chair. And I am comparing it to my expensive chairs that my insurance company gave me. They have all the bells and whistles. The only reason I give this three stars is because of the damaged parts. I would give it four or five just for how well it works. The bottom line is, I think it's a good chair and I would recommend it. Got the chair and wanted to leave a positive feedback but I cannot get a response from the company on the damaged parts or on how to adjust the loud sounds. The chair is cute and has the things they claim it has. However, it has a loud voice for backing up and for turning on the chair (see attached video). It's loud and annoying and I cannot find any information on how to turn it off. It makes my dogs bark and no one likes it. The chair showed up with several damaged spots too. It still works but it's beat up. I wish Culver would answer its emails and tell me how to turn off the awful voice and replace the damaged parts. Other than the damage and the sounds I like the chair. If Culver would back up their products they would have more happy customers. ... show more

  • Probably the best wheel chair out there for the money.
Style: Black
Probably the best wheelchair for the money. Easy to use, folds and fits in the trunk of my Camry. Fast and comfortable.

  • Nobody answers their customer service number
Style: Black
We just received this today. It did not come with the headrest or a remote control. The electric recline function does not work, which was the main reason we chose this product. Even though customer service says they are open until 4pm, nobody answered and no return call. We now have a new amputee with poor trunk control who cannot sit upright safely. Very disappointed in the lack of trouble-shooting support, as this is not an inexpensive item. If I do not receive the missing items and hear back promptly, I will return this product and report it to the better business bureau. Make it right, or the review will not change. Please consider if this was someone you loved who had just been through a traumatic experience. ... show more
