  • Great outdoor pizza oven
Style: Portable Outdoor Pizza Oven Pattern Name: Pizza Oven
The media could not be loaded. Jim and I have been looking for a pizza oven for awhile. We were looking at an after market oven for our weber grill, but then read that burning wood in the grill invalidated it's warranty, so that didn't seem like a good idea. On the other hand, gas grills didn't appeal for the same reason we don't care for gas regular grills, we want the woodsy or charcoal flavor. When Vine members started getting this grill I read their reviews avidly. Although I didn't get offered the pizza grill for review I was still interested, but would it be enough to reach into my pocket, or rather, Jim's pocket, and pay the asking price? I put the grill on my wishlist and waited for reviews to come in. Then it had a price drop so I went ahead and bought it, I say this even though price fluctuates, at the time of this review the oven is 249, the price dropped to 199. I am not sure I would have paid 249 and am still not, although I am pretty happy with the results. One of the reasons we hesitated is for the same reason we don't have a gas grill, we want the flavor of smoke or charcoal. The little wood chip basket solved that issue, giving our pizzas a lovely smokey flavor. Otherwise we could just pump the oven up to 500. The wood chip caught on fire, as did the parchment paper, but it didn't seem to hurt the grill, other than leave a soot mark that cleaned up easily. The construction is solid and the unit is fairly heavy. Because we saved the money we splurged and bought the folding stand that works wonderfully well. We them splurged further and got an adapter hose and a full propane tank that can fit under the stand, rather than using the little canisters. I uploaded a video, for some reason the sound didn't come through, but I show it cooking two pizzas, a standard pepperoni and sausage and a caramelized onion, tomato, and goat cheese pizza. Making the pizzas was a learning curve. First, this is not walk away. The dial says 600 but we could not get it over 500, even after 20 or so minutes. Still, it didn't cool down or lose heat either, so we were able to do 4 pizzas, one right after the other. Everyone made their own pizza and experimented. Our infrared thermometer showed the temperature to be about accurate, within 10 degrees. Not bad at all for an outdoor grill type device. Besides pizza you could do Naan bread, focaccia, and it would be a great alternative to a broiler if you have the oven going anyway, to crisp up skin or put a brown crust on a cheese dish, melt the topping on a French onion soup, just keep in mind you need a container that is relatively short, and can take the heat from the bottom as well as the top. The knob pushes in and then turns to ignite, it took us about five or six tries and we were about ready to give up and send it back. Should ignition fail you can use a match. We did get it to ignite, but it's touchy. The grill gets hot, top, bottom, sides, there is a convenient handle to lift the top to keep from getting burned, but keep this in mind if you want kids to be helping make the pizzas. The stone is your average pizza stone, works fine, the peel is okay. We had trouble with sticking so we put parchment paper down and watched it curl and burn immediately, however, we noticed only the extra burned so the second pizza we cut the paper to just fit the crust and it didn't burn. After turning the pizza we were also able to just slide the paper out and finish on the stone. You can see from the video we didn't turn it enough, so we bought the pizza turners. (umm. yes, I saved a LOT of money on this LOL!) But one thing is it is hotter in the back which makes sense, and turning the pizza will ensure a more even crust. By our third pizza we had the hang of it. Storage is something to consider, this isn't some cute little table top appliance, it takes a fair of amount of space and is fairly heavy. We solved the issue by buying!! yes, buying the cover. We feel the investment in the accessories are worthwhile because we plan on using this a lot. Even on nights I'm making fajitas on the grill we can start the pizza oven up and heat the tortillas. So.. was it worth it to buy it, definitely. The smokey wood chip flavor combined with the ease of a gas grill to control temperature is a real winner. I would recommend anyone considering a pizza oven consider the Cuisinart. ... show more

  • Heating
Style: Portable Outdoor Pizza Oven Pattern Name: Pizza Oven
A few steps to set up the warming tray and a few other parts so it’s not ready to go out of the box. I suggest treating the stone although directions don’t address. Always preheat! I like to heat to 450 then lower to 400 and pizza done in about 12 minutes. Frozen pizzas take longer but work we’ll all cook time is depending on size and toppings.Imperative to move pie during cook time to be an even cook throughout. Works best with small propane tank. ... show more

  • Works well, will probably have to get other accessories to really use it.
Style: Portable Outdoor Pizza Oven Pattern Name: Pizza Oven
I couldn't wait to try this out after picking it up on sale. It gets way too hot in the summer to keep cooking pizzas inside and this looked like it could replicate the experience a little easier than the grill. After one cook night straight out of the box I'm looking forward to dialing it in but also see the value in the accessories I think I have to pick up. I had a spare 1 lbs propane tank so I fired things up on a windy, 50-degree May Sunday. Without a stand I just put it on the weber's prep table. Cool, windy conditions were not ideal but it got up to over 500 degrees in less than 10 minutes. I turned each pizza after a few minutes and came out with two good looking pies. The oven temp started to dip and two pies were about all I think I was going to get out of the experience. But they both cooked up beautifully, maybe even a little better than they would have on the pizza steel in the oven. On that experience alone I'm sold, but I also realize it's going to be more practical in the long term to pick up things like the stand, an adapter hose for the bigger tanks, and a cover. I was hoping to just stash this under the grill when it wasn't in use but that's not going to fly. But it'll be worth it to keep cooking over the summer without turning my entire house into one big oven. ... show more

  • Better than expected
Style: Portable Outdoor Pizza Oven Pattern Name: Pizza Oven
Huge improvement over trying to make pizza in our RV oven. It took us until the third pizza to perfect our dough recipe and get the results we were looking for. I prefer to use a larger wooden peel to build the pizza and then open the oven top to slide it onto the stone. The included peel is fine for turning the pizza and removing it from the oven. Crispy thin crust pizza cooks perfectly in 5-6 minutes. ... show more

I ordered this for my dad for Christmas since he always wanted a pizza oven! I love that you can hook it right up to a propane tank with the attachment. My dad loved it! It’s very easy and works great and the pizza was delicious!
