    • Perfect Ice Maker - And How To Keep It Clean!

We moved to a new house and sadly there was no waterline for our fridge. Not the biggest deal, but we are really bad about remembering to empty and refill ice trays. I did some research on countertop ice makers and came across this one. It's the perfect size, doesn't make a lot of noise, and it makes enough ice in a good amount of time. The ice melts down into the water reservoir and can be reused. A common complaint I saw about this particular model was of mold growing inside the water reservoir and above the area where the ice is made. We've had our ice maker a while, and have done my best to keep it clean. The instructions do not share how to prevent mold, but I figured out that if you remove the two screws under the lifting lid above the ice, you can remove the whole top half of the ice maker to clean out everything carefully. It also recommends using the self-cleaning function (holding down the power button until all the lights start flashing) at least once a week, and draining out the water and cleaning it with mild soap regularly. I also add a capful of white vinegar and run the self-cleaning every other week, dump it out, and run the self cleaning again with fresh water and dump that out. It has helped keep any mold issues at bay, and our ice sparkling. I hope this helps anyone who is on the fence from the reviews about the mold, and I hope this helps anyone else who is looking into getting this one. As I said, it's fairly quiet, but when the ice drops, it does make a bit of noise. You get used to it pretty quick, but it does spook the cats sometimes, ha ha. ... show more

Just got my new ice maker. I let it stand for an entire day before making ice. next I completed the descaling operation to clean the machine. The instructions recommended using water and vinegar into the machine and allowed it to clean. I repeated the descaling steps at least 3 times. It only takes 30 minutes to complete the cleaning cycle. After descaling, I made 2 batches of ice (these batches were discarded). My final batch, I used bottled water and the taste was great. It does take a while for the ice basket to fill up. The machine is not that noisy, It makes enough ice. If you have an ice bucket, be sure to remove the ice from the machine and put it in your freezer for best results. The ice does freeze together in solid blocks. Just break it apart and the size is okay. It looks like bullet ice with the hole in the center. Be sure to drain any water left in the machine. The drain plug is under the machine., a little hard to get to. I like this ice maker, at least I get better tasting ice without all the fuss. Easy to operate and convenient. ... show more
