  • I WAS READY TO THROW IN THE TOWEL ON THIS BUT READ BELOW
Color: For Windows and Mac
I got this sound card initially for a problem I was having with my internal sound card on my laptop. I then decided to try it out on my newer laptop with Windows 11. I did that and downloaded the driver. I was not the least bit impressed with the sound and was ready to throw in the towel. I put it back with the older computer as the sound card in it was not working properly and at the cheap price, it was better than doing without no sound at all. Then, this evening, November 17, I thought I would give it another try. But, this time, I did not load the Creative drivers, I let Windows 11 set up the drivers for me. I went in to change the sampling rate to 96/24 on the sound properties menu and something magical happened. When I put the music on Tidal on HiFi setting, it was like a totally different sound card. The sound stage opened up and magic happened!!! Whatever you do NOT DOWNLOAD THE CREATIVE DRIVERS FOR THIS CARD. Let Windows set up the driver by itself. Their program was choking the lifeblood out of this little gem of a sound card. I am happy that I gave it another chance :) ... show more

  • Crystal clear sound on MacBook
Color: For Windows and Mac
I have a really nice amplified 2.1 speaker system on my desk. Recently something has happened to my headphone jack, and I am getting terrible ground loop hum. I have always wanted to try a DAC anyway, and I was resigned to spend $100+ on something from audioquest, but I saw this at less than 1/5 the price from a reputable brand, and decided to try it. No driver needed, plugged into my USB hub, and instantly sound was MUCH better than anything I have ever heard out of my stock 3.5mm jack. Extremely impressed. I shaped the sound to fit my likes with the program EQmac, and wow. The fidelity is great now. One other great thing is that my MacBook is trultplugand play with just one cable, vs before when I had to plug in the headphone port. 5 stars. If you have a quality system you will hear a difference ... show more

  • Big improvement over both of my computers' build-in audio
Color: For Windows and Mac
I bought this to hook up speakers to a Samsung laptop and also to my home-build desktop PC with fairly new Asus motherboard. It greatly improves the sound volume from both of them compared to their on-board audio. It especially improves the laptop, since plugging speakers into the laptop's headset jack makes windows 11 think you're plugging in headphones and constantly makes you confirm you want to raise the volume as a warning that it could damage your hearing. That's not a problem with this adapter anymore when plugging it into the laptop's USB, Windows detects it as external speakers now and I get more volume out of the speakers. Overall this adapter has been a very good upgrade for a small cost. ... show more

  • If you have a prebuilt PC (Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc) Buy this immediately!
Color: For Windows and Mac
So, I bought a pre-built PC. A Dell XPS 8940, to be exact. Graphics cards were hard to come by, was a decent price, had an RTX-3060 Ti, you get it. But the sound! The sound coming out of the machine was absolutely dreadful. The onboard was dreadful, even using the RTX-3060 Ti as a sound card was dreadful. Bizarre midrange-heavy sound with a piercing distorted treble at any volume. I don't have amazing speakers, but they're not junk either. Bose companion 2 from over a decade ago. I know what people think about Bose, but they've always sounded alright to me, just have to reign in the bass a little as they're bass heavy. Or were. Well not on this computer, they sounded like trash. Everything sounded like trash. And then it hit me, we always used to have Sound Blaster Audigy cards in our PCs back in the day, do they still exist? They do! And while researching them, the consensus was that their little USB dongle was on-par with their dedicated PCI card version these days for 2.1 systems. What a world we live in. Having read the reviews, I installed the Sound Blaster Play! 3 Control Panel driver before using the speakers. If my sound quality was a 1/10 before, it's a full on 10/10 now. 24-bit 96KHz sounds like a million bucks. Holy cow do I regret not buying this sooner. I implore you, if you have a Dell, HP, Lenovo, any of the big-name system integrator PCs and you're unhappy with the sound quality, buy this little Sound Blaster. I cannot recommend that enough. By FAR the best upgrade-for-cost option out there. It's not even a night and day difference, it's a glow-in-the-dark sticker compared to the SUN difference. Favorite purchase of the year. ... show more
