I have tried calibrating it right out of the box it can not even read the calibration card QR code. It loses tracking every time I try to scan an object. I have tried all the different modes and it just does not work. For the amount this thing costs it should work better than the $300 scanners. I would not purchase this unless you want to be disappointed.

So it works. Its not complicated. Software is not the most amazing but if you just want an out of the box scanner that is not horrible this is it. Its not industrial but its accurate enough for any hobby machinist to be pleased with. Learn to use 3d scanners via youtube and you will do ok with this one.

The only thing this scanner scanned well was the owl figurine it came with... nothing else even comes close to being a useful model. I don't have experience with other 3D scanners, so maybe my expectations were high, and 3d scanners just aren't quite there yet... but I now hove a $900 paperweight

I had two scanners before this one and I got to, say this, this scanners outperforms the others in every aspect. It will scann anything but has trouble with thin hair. Like on older people. 😂 I love it and wouldn’t trade it for anything else.

Please read about my experience, and save yourself the frustration. I watched all the YouTube reviews (and read others) in advance. I invested countless hours tweaking settings and scanning, trying to get it to work. Short story: scanning took a lot of time, was very frustrating, and results were poor. Both units went back. A complete waste of time. Long story: - First unit wouldn't calibrate on the "tilt right 15 degrees" setting. It just didn't detect. Randomly, the software would just skip that section, after repeated failures, and gave a 93.5% calibration score. Second scanner had issues with calibrating in that same direction, but was slightly better (got half the green boxes) and got to a 96.5% calibration score. - The scanner is VERY sensitive to movement when it first starts scanning, and loses its place repeatedly even if you're not moving the scanner at all. - The scanner loses tracking often, and often takes a long time to find it (asking you to go back to the last scanned spot) - The scanner "hallucinates" on any flat rectangular surfaces, even if they have other features on them. You can be holding the scanner steady, but on screen you see a horizontal object that starts to go out to infiniti. You have to pause the scan, then click the "back" button hundreds of times (sometimes you can see it removing the hallucinated sections from the point cloud, sometimes due to software bugs you can't see what's changing at all until you start scanning again). - After unpausing the scan after hallucinating, it has trouble finding the last spot (AGAIN!). - When you finally stop scanning, it does a poor job of automatically removing the flat base from the scan. - When you delete the garbage data from the point cloud, it only works before the first processing step. If you've already meshed the object, and try to delete bad data, when you click to process again it keeps the bad data. MORE software bugs. - When you take several scans and merge them, once they're merged YOU LOSE YOUR ORIGINALS! The old Scan Lizard software let you keep your originals, plus have the new merged scan. That was a much better approach, given how buggy this software is. - The auto-align of scans is very poor - The manual align of scans is much better, but there's a lot of extra junk added when they're meshed together and further processed. - You need a lot of external light to have a hope of getting a decent scan, and it's still poor - You need a ton of contrast between the color of your object and the flat base, and you'll still end up with a bunch of garbage you'll have to manually delete - If you try to turn an object while scanning (i.e., to scan the base) the software completely loses it. It might initially recognize the orientation, but then it goes berserk. - The times it loses scanning, and then thinks it found the spot...but it's on a completely different side of the object, adding garbage data, is awful. It never figures out the right spot, no matter how many times you pause and restart that scan. - The number of times you have to click "clear data from this scan and start over" is ludicrous. It's horrible. SO MUCH WASTED TIME. - Scanning with geometry vs. texture didn't help. Scanning on small vs. medium didn't help. Results were just poor. - It's not just terrible with black objects. I tried with gray objects, and red objects. It did a terrible job with all of them. In summary: This thing was a complete hassle to use. You stand there kind of dancing, barely moving the scanner, hoping it won't lose tracking (IT WILL) or hallucinate the surface to infiniti (IT WILL). You hope THIS TIME it will only take 10 minutes to scan, because this time you figured it out... And instead, an hour later, you wonder where the time went, and why your results are so poor. And you'll have nothing usable. Frankly, I've used the Scan Lizard. That thing actually worked. Required like 20 scans to get all the parts of an object, and some of the small sections were hard to get well. But it actually worked better. Also took an hour to scan an object, but at least the results were usable. This is not a good scanner. Extremely high price for an extremely poor product. What a waste of time.

Software is awful and scanner barely works. At least 90% of my time using this scanner was spent looking at either the "lost tracking" message or the "Insufficient valid scanned points" message. I tried experimenting due to the software. There is no preview when you're choosing scan settings, so A/B comparisons are impossible. That wouldn't be a big deal if they could be easily changed, but they absolutely cannot. To change settings, you have to start scanning with the current settings, scan some points, click stop, click confirm, wait for the scan to process, click home, click confirm, click the ellipsis under the garbage scan, click delete, click yes, click 'new project', re-enter the name, then click OK. This is especially infuriating because processing will fail if you don't capture enough frames and you can't even start the scan if the scanner can see enough points. In other words, choosing the wrong settings makes it almost impossible to go back and choose the right ones. There are 3 tracking methods: geometry, texture, and tracker. However for some reason you can only choose one, and tracker mode is useless. Even if the scanner can see enough tracker dots, it will still stop tracking if it can't see enough valid scan points. This makes it impossible to scan objects which only return scan points at certain angles; completely defeating the point of the tracker dots.
