Most landscape companies where I live come to mow, weed whack, remove seed pods, trim bushes, use blowers, and can charge up to $300+ to cut down medium size areca palm trees. Retired and like DIY projects. Enjoy watching tree trimming bloopers on Youtube. Teaches about using correct cuts, anticipating tree lean angle and using guide ropes. This chain saw has already paid for itself, though I’ll leave large trees to the professionals when needed. Set up and maintenance is easy- make sure to keep the lubricating oil level consistent, keep chain tension at 1/8”, disconnect the battery between cuts for safety, clean after each use, and file the saw teeth to maintain sharpness. Saw’s smaller size works well in tight spaces in between the areca trees. Rechargeable lithium battery has plenty of power for my jobs. Definitely use eye protection and my gloves with the left hand kevlar layer to avoid injuries. Also have a metal Oregon log saw horse fr Amazon- a great help to cut tree trunks into smaller pieces for the green waste bin. ... show more

I'm conjecturing here based on using it one time. I didn't want a super powerful gas chain saw because these things scare the hell out of me. I had visions of me cutting a leg off or something. So I got this smallish battery powered unit. I liked the fact that it was self oiling too and the price was attractive. It looked and felt like it was well made. The switches clicked nicely - especially the chain brake. It easily cut through 2 - 3 inch diameter sections though a 6 inch stump took a few minutes. Based on videos I've seen I'm sure a gas powered unit would handle that like a stick of butter. However, if there were an accident I could see this thing severing an artery but I think it would slow down when it hit bone. That's a good thing. ... show more

I am not a pro tree man. Although I want a bad ass 3ft gas chainsaw, I really have no need. This season has been especially wild in the Midwest and I had a silver maple peel part. This 12 inch craftsman did the job of falling the rest of what was standing and then chopping it up. All I did was fully charge the battery and add the bar and chain oil and it was ready to rock. Battery's dont last long when cutting through a large stump, but it did work pretty dang well, allot better than expected by me honestly. it was a great price too. it's a good size to throw in my truck if needed.
