The port is not the right size to accommodate a 1 1/4" shop vac. This was the whole reason I purchased this sander. That being said, this sander does work very well, but if you are getting it because they say it hooks directly to a vacuum, look elsewhere.

Requires purchase of an additional item in order to use a shop vacuum for dust collection. This description says it will connect, but that is just not true. It has a weird connection that definitely won't connect, except maybe to a 1 3/4" hose. But I have never used that size and it is difficult to find such, I checked on Google. Having to add a connector, if one could be found, would meet the sander so long that it would not work for many of the projects I do.

Style: 5" Random Orbit Sander
Compared to a detail sander, this is more powerful, but still gentle enough to use on veneer without pummeling through. Makes sanding furniture and cabinets much less tedious and slow. The dust bag doesn't catch all dust but helps a ton, and catches more than my detail sander does. I haven't had any problems with it jamming when I apply a little pressure. I don't notice circular scars on the wood after going over it, like you see with orbital sanders sometimes. Quieter and smoother in my hand than my detail sanders. Still need the detail sanders for corners and edges, though. Hook and loop is functioning perfectly.

Like so many other reviewers here, I was extremely disappointed to find that it could not be hooked up to a 1-1/4" vacuum hose as was stated in the description. However, I found a product that can make it work with any shop vacuum, and makes using it hooked up thusly much, much easier. Search Amazon for: "Peachtree Woodworking Supply 10 Foot Universal Power Tool Hose Kit" (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M27BN5Y/ref=cm_sw_r_u_apa_fab_8liIFbS8SS7CZ). This 1" super flexible hose comes with 4 (2 each) flexible rubber hose ends that fit over the dust port on the sander (with the dust collector bag removed - it is definitely tight enough to stay attached). There are also 2 smaller rubber hose ends that work with devices that actually do attach to 1-1/4 hoses. And 2 hard plastic ones that attach to the 2-1/2" suction ports on most shop vacuums (or 2-1/2" vacuum hose couplers). Have been using a 15 yo square Black and Decker sander and figured it was time for something new. This sander is comfortable and makes things much smoother than square types. My square sander always left lines in the material the the paper always seemed to walk to the left or right. This Velcro style orbital sander is the way to go. Great product for the price!

I replaced an older craftsman orbital sander (prior to the rebranding) with this new model. Cons: Lacks a variable speed control. I like to use a shop vac with power sanders and as other reviewers noted this does not securely connect to a 1 1/4 standard hose. The old model fit standard shop vac hose perfectly. It also has variable speed. the on/off switch is not great (better switch on old model) Pros: it works - the set speed is ok, the dust bag attachment feature is good. If you need a basic sander this is great product.

Tiny but mighty. I attach it to my vacuum cleaner for dust-free sanding. It compares to pricier DeWalt sanders (heck, it may even be the same on a different color) in features and power.

I needed a slower speed sander in my shop so I purchased a DeWalt at Lowes and use it both for low, or high speed. Because of the price, and made by the same company, I decided to buy this Craftsman sander. To my surprise it out performed the DeWalt high speed by a far margin. In fact I purchased a second one just to have on hand if the need arose. I do not like the dust port on either one but I fixed that with a $2.00 1 1/2 by 1 1/4 inch soft plastic reducer sleeve. For the price this is a great buy.
