I am only giving this a 3 start because of the experience. My granddaughter and I did this together and it was a lot of fun. As for the product, that a different story, it was not very flavorful, and there are 2 ways to produce the root beer, on just add seltzer water and the other is to carbonate it. We did both, it never carbonated. When I reached out to the company and explained my issue and check to see if it was possible to have an issue with the botanicals and/or Yeast, they were helpful, basically were like oh well. They did however imply I must have done something wrong. I would like to try making this again however 100% will not be with this company!!!, ... show more

Not the best I have ever had, but a lot better than some of them that I have tried. Very simple kit allows you to brew your own root beer, without using syrup, It has a more classic flavor to it, so maybe for some, this root beer will taste odd. If you've never had properly made root beer, this might be the thing that makes you re-think whether or not the mass market stuff is worth it. I am a craft root beer person, so I do not like the stuff that is made chemically, or from concentrates. This, however, is similar to the root beer my grandfather used to make on holidays for the kids. He was born before the depression, and was raised on a farm, so root beer, birch beer, and the like, were all made from scratch when he was growing up, and he continued it on. I'm lazy, and don't always have the time to source the ingredients for root beer, so this kit made it easy. Just brew it, use the yeast to carbonate it, and done. If you have a soda water machine, you could also carbonate it that way, but I find the yeast method is better, but it does add a very slight amount of alcohol to the mixture, so you should be aware of that. I was under the impression it was like beer with lots of complicated gizmos and maybe even a barrel, like I've seen root beer barrels at the nearby brewery. But this is actually really easy. You need bottles that seal up, sterilized hopefully, this kit, and some time. Flavor was pretty good.
