  • Great set for woodworking
I’m really happy with this countersink drill bit set. The different sizes make it very versatile, and the adjustable depth stop is especially useful for getting consistent holes without drilling too deep. The 1/4” hex shank makes changing bits quick and easy. They work great for wood and plywood, and the cuts come out clean and precise. Definitely a useful set for DIY and woodworking ... show more

  • Clever design, different than a traditional depth-stop, but maybe not needed.
It might not be 100% clear from the listing how this works, but if you watch the video in my review, you'll understand. Traditional collar-style depth stops have been around forever - you adjust them to the desired depth, tighten, and then when the depth-stop bottoms-out, you stop drilling. The thing is, they're rigidly fastened to the bit, and keep rotating as long as the bit is rotating. The beauty of this product's design is that the stop is mounted on a bearing, and just spins along with the bit due to friction/inertia - but once it contacts the workpiece, it stops dead... as opposed to the traditional design, which keeps spinning and mars the surface slightly. Very clever. This is a very complicated design, though, and requires special bits that go along with the collar. And even though the collar does stop spinning, it can still make a mark on the workpiece, as you can see in the photo (the workpiece was just 2x softwood). Also, regardless of which type of stop you use, whatever marks you make will most likely get sanded-off before finishing, so even the small marks left by traditional stops aren't really a big deal. If you're in a position where you need to have a clean, countersunk hole with 0% chance of marring the surface, you're probably not going to use a stop directly against the workpiece anyhow - you'll apply tape as protection, or drill through a sacrificial spacer. So, while this is a clever product, and it does work as advertised, it's also a more complicated solution than it needs to be, and probably isn't required for the typical cases when you'd use a countersink bit like this. ... show more
