It cracked in half while I was on the top grabbing a sweater. We have only had it a few weeks and it’s hardly been used. I have major injuries to both legs. I will likely be headed to the doctor but have spent the entire Thanksgiving with both legs propped and iced. This is not a sturdy stool. It is actually quite dangerous. As you can see from the picture it cracked and the top half fell off as well as I came crashing down.

The directions warn you about the finish. Be careful what you use on it. It looks nice but I think the wood is teak and is very oily and doesn't hold a finish they way other woods do. It looks great and will continue to do so if you treat it right. The last step in the directions shows two number 2 screws going into the underside of the top step. Wrong! The go through the folding steps into the round dowel to keep the steps from sliding side to side. The pilot holes in the folding steps are easy to spot. Rotate the dowel until you see the small pilot holes and then center the steps on them.

I bought this because I have problems standing for long periods of time, however I love cooking. This is the PERFECT height for a counter top. I'm a big girl so stability was paramount. I have no problems sitting or standing on steps. I'm not about to stand on the top.... no one should. The bonus is I often have a 2.5 yr old in my home, he LOVES using the ladder and I don't need to worry about it toppling over. Now he helps make sandwiches (future cook)

April 21, 2021 Just brought it in and opened the box. Haven't taken it out yet, but it looks beautiful, color seems to match photo, it is glossy, too. Well packed with styrofoam, haven't checked for defects but I had to comment right away because it arrived so quickly! Less than 9 days, it had an estimate of 16 days, but was delivered so soon! I have read the reviews and noticed a few people talk about assembly, a few complaints in there, but some kind people attempt to help with assembly. I am grateful I can reference those comments and will update as soon as I have new information. Unfortunately at this point, I can only give a fair mid rating of 3 until I have more information. The pictures of product in box are for this commentary, very well packed and pieces arrived in great condition. As I mentioned, it arrived in 9 days. May 13, 2021 Update: Much easier assembly than others have claimed, one person commented about one of the later steps of assembly with the dowel, it seemed easier to do that step before fully assembled. So we put the stool and the steps together separately before the dowel and steps together with stool. It seemed easier this way. My BIGGEST complaint is the directions are NOT descriptive, just pictures as someone else commented and posted in his/her pictures. Standing and stepping on the steps and sitting on the stool feels sturdy, I will not attempt to stand on top of stool, but can say it is sturdy for me to sit on and I am a 2x sized gal. Very attractive step stool, and very attractive sitting stool as well. It is a few inches shy of counter height. I am 5'7" and it's almost at my hip. The steps fold neatly and flush under the stool. I have multiple sclerosis which caused me to have vertigo which acts up every so often and for me to say I feel very safe stepping on the first step and relatively safe of the second step, says a lot for the sturdiness. Assembled product is easy to carry from room to room and steps stay folded under. I'm sure if you were to swing your arm at a fast swing the steps theoretically *might* come out, but hasn't for me. I've had it for few weeks now and can say I am Very Happy with this product! Updating rating to 4 star. What I feel is most fair is a 4 star rating because I give that when I am very happy with a product and only give more if company goes above and beyond what is expected and this IS EXACTLY what I Wanted and Expected! This is what I feel is the most fair rating. Besides, the directions are not descriptive enough and I do understand why others had issues with assembly. I am including additional pictures of the assembled product. I hope others find this review helpful :-D

As many of the other reviewers mention, this was very hard to assemble. It took my husband and me both (one to wield the screwdriver, one to hold the pieces together) working for about an hour. We didn't have to re-drill any holes though a couple were not lined up perfectly which added to the difficulty. Now that it's done we like it. It's light-weight so we can move it around the kitchen to the various too-high cabinets that we have, it's easy to unfold and fold back up, and it seems pretty sturdy. I've stood on the top step and didn't feel unsafe. The color looks decent with our cherry dining set and dark cabinets, and when it's folded up it doesn't take up much room.

More than worth the money. The step stool is very easy to transport and store owing to its lightweight and folding features. It's quite portable and can be easily opened up or closed. I'm 180 lbs and the step stool has no problem supporting my weight. It doesn't wobble and I feel very secure standing on it. It can hold a lot of weight. The 198 lbs load limit seems to be very conservative. The step stool feels sturdy enough to hold a lot more weight.
