We own an Airbnb cabin up in the mountains, where temperatures swing dramatically with the seasons and vary significantly across the three floors. For example, in summer, when the ground floor is at a pleasant 70°F, the second floor hits about 80°F, and the top floor can soar to 90°F or even 120°F at times! Conversely, in winter, the ground floor drops to 30°F, the second floor climbs to 40°F, and the top floor reaches 50°F. Our central heating has been a costly affair, especially since Airbnb guests often forget to adjust the thermostat when they leave. To find a more cost-effective and WiFi-enabled solution for both heating and cooling, we turned to Mini Splits, inspired by my travels in Asia. Mini Splits are compact air conditioning and heating units designed for smaller spaces. Unlike central systems that heat or cool an entire house, a Mini Split targets specific areas, making it an efficient and cost-effective method of temperature control. We received quotes from various HVAC professionals, averaging over $3,000 to install a single, WiFi-enabled Mini Split. Searching for a more budget-friendly option, we frequently encountered recommendations for Costway. We purchased two units: one single and one dual-zone (a base unit with two separate indoor units). We opted for a minimum capacity of 9,000 BTU to cool roughly 400 sq ft. Installation: We hired a contractor who found the installation straightforward, barely needing the manual. Performance: The units heated a test room from 63°F to 78°F in about 23 minutes. Switching to cooling mode, the temperature dropped from 78°F to 68°F in around 30 minutes. Impressive results. Remote Control: The WiFi control worked flawlessly, allowing us to pre-cool or pre-heat the cabin for guest arrivals and turn off the units after checkout. Energy Efficiency: Although we noticed an increase in our electric bill compared to our old gas system, the benefit is clear: guests can now set their desired temperatures for each floor. Previously, setting the thermostat to 70°F on the second floor meant the ground floor was around 60°F, and the top floor dropped to an icy 50°F in the early mornings. We plan to improve insulation on the top floor, but in the meantime, the Mini Splits prevent it from becoming a sauna in the summer and an icebox in the winter. Value: Given the price, Costway provides good quality and reliable performance, making it a worthy investment for comfort and savings. The media could not be loaded. I've been working in the building services industry, and for the first time, I have a deal with AC system with two units. The installation required an electrician, so make sure you have one to ensure the job us done properly. The AC system cames with all the necessary tubes, bolts, and even tape, which was really helpful. It was also pre-charged. The materials are solid, made from strong metal with a cute design, and no defects were founded. The units have enough power to cover the living room and bedroom. Additionally, the it comes with an app, and connecting it to Alexa takes few minutes, really easy set up. After two weeks, it's been working great. The media could not be loaded. I installed the AC a few days ago, and it's working as expected. It came with all the necessary components, and the pipe was already prepared for connection, which was a nice touch. However, the pipe wasn't long enough for my rooms, but that's not a major issue and hopefully, you'll have better luck with the length. During installation, I didn't encounter any problems, and my partner and I followed the instructions step by step, so the documentation is clear and accurate. The indoor unit looks good, and when it's running, it's quite quiet. The outdoor unit performs well too. In heating mode, it operates at no more than 43 dB (according to my Apple Watch), so it's quiet enough to place near windows without being heard.
