My husband installed this easily within our shop and got a rack to mount the outside unit to the back of the shop. Electrical was easy. You will need a vacuum pump to get it fully hooked up but works great! We had purchased a different one that had a leak in it (different brand) so this one has definitely pleased us since it is reliable. It cools our entire shop relatively fast and we don’t have to run it constantly and waste energy. Glad it has both heat and cooling settings so that we can adjust by seasons.

I ordered the 11500btu 115v model for 750 sq ft cabin that is not insulated but is covered. Like other people have mentioned, the installation was doable by yourself AND you'll have more of an appreciation for HVAC techs when finished. For the price I paid (about $430 after tax) its a budget friendly way to get into the Minisplit game for your home, barn, workshop, extra room, etc. However I have some concerns and don't know if I would purchase from costway again or not. The installation and assembly is straightforward - if you watch about 15 youtube videos on how to do it beforehand. We wired it up, it started and the heating and cooling functioned right away - so I'm giving it 3 stars (more than I want to give) for that. But immediately, we noticed water dripping directly out of the unit, not out of the drip hose where the water is supposed to exit from the condensation, and then into a bucket, where we are putting a pump to move that water to another location. Why is there water coming from under the unit and not the "drip" hose? I looked underneath the outside unit (compressor/condenser portion) to see a few screws protruding out of the bottom of the outdoor unit itself. I'm guessing, when they screwed "whatever" is in there to the frame, they must have accidentally pierced the drain tube with one of those screws. So now the water leaks from the inside of the unit to the outside finding its ways through the screw gaps in the metal - and it drips everywhere and a lot. Plus, how many problems is that going to cause in the future, or worse? Aside from the tube, the unit doesn't operate all the time. It shuts off every 10 minutes or so, then fights itself to turn back on. It makes weird noises even when it is running. The wifi connection or app is a joke, I often have to press the remote button like 7 times to get it to respond. Also some things I noticed that I didn't think about before and will definitely affect my next mini-split decision: - it only runs on 115v.. I thought that was good initially, but running on 115v actually means that it has less power, and less ability to do stuff without something else being effected. For instance, when you want to rotate the air direction (up or down, left or right), you can hear the motor lose power and the air flow slows down, as it diverts that electricity from the motors that blow the air, to the motors that change the vent direction. For people who know, this might be expected. I didn't. So when I want to rotate the air to another side, or higher or lower, the air speed drops a bit. - The icons on the remote don't match. The vents that show going up and down, actually make the vents go left and right on the machine. And of course, the icon on the remote the shows left and right, actually make the vents go up and down. - Like I said earlier, when you change the vents, up/down or left/right, the power slows down. And because the remote doesn't respond quickly, its a guessing game to get the air positioned right where I want it, and as I'm messing with it, the air is going slower and slower. It would be a good commercial. - The 115v also uses MORE AMPS than the 220V. With the 115v unit, you are going to need a 15 amp, 20 amp or 25 amp breaker or fuse depending on the wire size - I believe the manual suggested 20 amps, but I used a 15 amp with 12 gauge wire to be safe. However, the 220v only requires a 10 amp breaker or fuse and you can use 14 gauge wire. Thinner wire is much cheaper. And depending on how far you want to place the unit from the breaker box, you might buy the 115v because its cheaper up front, but end up spending more money in wire. The possible savings of buying a 115v vs the 220v, becomes less "worth it" when considering the higher cost of the wire. - Its all plastic. When I'm looking at the fins and stuff that move the air, I just see thin plastic everywhere, it looks breakable and not like its going to last long. The gears, brackets, it all looks like its ready to snap. The propeller in the back for the blower is thin, thin, plastic. It just doesn't look like its built to last a long time. I haven't even had mine a month and it came broken and is consistently getting worse. I will likely need a new one in the next week, everyday it shuts down longer. And I just went through this crap. - If you lose the remote - you're jacked. There are no buttons or options to turn the unit on/off manually. If you lose the remote, step on it, etc - you won't be able to turn this unit on, and turning it off would be require pulling the manual disconnect or flipping the breaker. Trying to connect with the app is definitely not working and I can guarantee this remote will grow legs and run away at some point. I wish it was bluetooth and not wifi. But I guess that's first world amazon problems. To be honest I want to give it 2 stars, but the customer service (mostly from amazon) from Costway was acceptable, and the unit does turn on and it does put out good heat/cold when it works. It is quiet, the cost to run it is cheaper than using a space heater. At first I didn't think it was worth it, but it does work much better than a space heater, it heats and cools, and you get to feel like a handyman installing it. For me, going forward, I think I will spend a little more and get something with more quality. I also think the 220v version (of any btu) is the way to go. For my space 650 sq ft drafty space, this does a decent job when its slightly cold, but if its very cold, I find myself layering up inside. So for my next purchase, I plan on finding an 18k btu 220v. If costway has a good deal on one I might give it another shot, but if it is the same entry level version of the one I have then I would pass because I don't see it lasting long and it already is giving me major problems.
