Silent and powerful! Very difficult to find new but im happy with what i got

  • have become summarily disappointed in both products
Pattern: Power Supply
I had purchased both the 500W SFX-L and the 600W SX600-G for an NCase compact gaming PC project I was working on, and over time, have become summarily disappointed in both products. The 500W: - Too large to accommodate a full sized GPU in this case... though not a knock specifically against this product, it is something to consider on smaller builds. - The Fan wobbles and makes a rubbing sound. This is a complaint I've read both here, on Newegg, and other various forums. Thought it works in "Silent" mode, even at low levels of load the fan spins up, and is noticeably audible. This was a big problem for me as one of my build parameters was to be ultra-quiet The 600W: - Started to fail after only 1 year of operation. - The fan is extremely loud, and spins up quickly with even minimal loading. Many people have pointed this out, and the only real solution is to replace the fan in it with a similar sized noctua. - Runs noticeably warmer than it's 500W sibling. The options are limited for small form factor power supplies, and both of these have their faults. I would highly advise steering away from the 600W supply as it does have repeatedly reported reliability issues. Both of the supplies have issues with noise from the fans. Luckily there are other options now. Anyone looking for an SFX power supply should do themselves a favor and check out the Corsair SF600: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-SF600-Performance-Power-Supply/dp/B01CGI5M24/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1465937155&sr=1-1&keywords=corsair+sf600 I've had this power supply installed in my machine since the Silverstone started failing, and I am 100% satisfied to date. It runs extremely silent and cool. The only knock I have against it are the cables that you have to use, but that is a nitpick compared to reliability. This is a must get for SFX PSU needs ... show more

  • Good quality, wish the value was better
Pattern: Power Supply
Unfortunately it's difficult to find PSUs at a good price right now, but this is solid quality for what you can find in a small form factor right now. Full modular, fits perfectly in an NR200 case, and no discernible noise. Remember to never re-use old power cables with a new PSU!

  • Great PSU, lousy cables for the price
Pattern: Power Supply
This is a very nice PSU. The unit itself has a good build quality and fits perfectly into my NCase M1, although if I lean close to the PSU I can hear a light, high pitch buzzing. I've read about this in other reviews. Not a problem for me because you have to go up close to hear it, but it concerned me at first. The PSU comes with two separate velvety bags to protect the PSU and the provided cables. The US model sold on Amazon works fine overseas; it operated as expected on our 230/240 volts / 50 hertz power. The cables aren't great. They are the biggest problem here. They are made of stiff black plastic, and some are ribbon shaped, which is a bit harder to work with and looks less tidy (circular cables can be tied easily in a tube shape, but the ribbon ones are flat and wide). I wasn't able to power my hard drive with the SATA power cable in my NCase M1 (bottom mounted) because the SATA connectors weren't able to lay flat enough to plug into the hard drive. The EVGA PSU in my other computer had a SATA power cable that had flat connectors which could reach, but I ended up using a spare Molex/sata adapter I had laying around. Furthermore, the connectors on the cables were so stiff and only went in with a "wiggle" motion. It was a nightmare trying to plug the connectors into my motherboard-- I had to support my board with one hand to stop PCB flex. It was just as hard getting the other end of the cables to plug into the PSU itself (which is why I blame the cable). You expect flexibility with the cabling, especially as SFX cables are targeted as smaller machines, and the Corsair SF600 stock cables aren't flexible enough. ... show more

  • Very nice PSU

  • Great small form factor (SFX) psu! Would highly recommend it for anyone doing a miniITX build!
Pattern: Power Supply
I love how small this thing is, it makes working in my miniITX build fantastic. I'm using this in a CoolerMaster Elite 130 which supports full size ATX power supplies, but I want to use a smaller PSU to gain CPU cooler clearance and cable management less claustrophobic. To use this in place of an ATX power supply I had to purchase a SilverStone Technology Universal ATX to SFX Power Supply Bracket RL-PP08B . It would be great if this PSU came with such a bracket already, I believe Silverstone includes it with their SFX PSUs and that would have been a nice touch. The modular cables that came with the PSU are very rigid and hard to work with in a small case, I ended up replacing them with a sleeved set from modDIY.com. The red & black sleeved cables were shorter and much more flexible, it included a 20cm 20+4pin ATX cable, 24cm 4+4pin CPU/EPS cable and 24cm Dual 6+2 pin PCI-e modular cable. The new cables really made a huge difference inside the case. The only original cable I am using is the SATA Power cables to power my SSD, HDD and ODD. Due to the placement of the drives inside the case I also had to use a short extension to reach all the drives with one cable. PROs - Small - Modular - 80+ Gold rating - Quiet CONs - Does not include SFX to ATX bracket - Very long and rigid modular cables Corsair has a real opportunity here to improve this product by including an SFX to ATX bracket and changing their cables out for more flexible sleeved cables. This PSU is designed for small form factor cases which are notoriously difficult to route cables in, more flexible cabling would greatly help this issue. ... show more
