  • We love this product but with heavy snow it's a no go.
This canopy is so nice and we love it on our deck. It would get so hot on the deck that we could not use the deck 85% of the time. This canopy was just what we were looking for. It was not hard to put together, however you will need a few people. Because of our high wind days, we were not sure how well the canopy would withstand. We put the feet into decorative baskets with rocks and dirt for weight and added weight bags to the top frame on each corner. In addition we ran wire into the screw holes in the feet and threaded it through the decking and anchored it to ground anchors at all four feet. It worked great and canopy stayed put in some pretty strong winds. We live in an area with large wind turbines and they don't install them in places that don't get wind. We get lots of wind and the canopy gets a 5 star on holding up to wind. We decided to leave it up to see how it handles snow. We read reviews that said the snow would melt and slide off easily. We are now three snow storms into the winter and we took the canopy down two days ago. We are in Colorado so heavy large amounts of snow are possible. Generally we get snow and then warm weather and the snow melts quickly. What we discovered was the snow did begin to melt during the day but did not drain off because the weight of the water and snow caused the canopy to sag in pockets. The pockets froze at night which cause blocks of ice to form. The good new is the canopy supports held the weight and did not bend or break. The bad news was spending hours of undoing the bungee cords and getting the snow and ice off the canopy to only have the next snow do the same thing. We are talking heavy snow of more than 4 inches up to 16 inches. We decided the benefit of the canopy throughout the winter was far less than the risk of falling while removing snow. The canopy is off but the support frame is still in place waiting for Spring. All in all we are very happy. We put this unit through some tough situations and it did extremely well. ... show more

  • Sturdy, Looks Great, Large Share Footprint, but Assembly is not Easy.
I bought this to replace a 10x10 gazebo, which was on top of a 12x12 wood platform. This being 13x13 means it will extend beyond the wood platform, which is a good thing.... it means more shade and more room. That wood platform was about 70% usable before, and now it is 100% usable. The instructions could be better. The pages are not stapled in the right order. Step 1 is on one page, and steps 6,7,8 are on the next few, and then step 2 is after that. Follow the steps according to the numbers, not the page sequence. There could be better instructions for hooking the canopy to the frame with those stretchy thingies. A close -up showing it done right would help. Pretty sure the instructions say to do corners last, but I had to do corners first. It was not going to work without doing corners first. Do the tall corners first -- you don't want to be tugging and stretching that high up. Doing the lower corner last is a lot safer and easier. Then go around and d the notches that are next to each corner -- again tall corners first. This gets the canopy into the right position. Now go around and do every other, and finally one more time to do the rest. Also, the poles marked with "f" need to be installed with the lock pin (on the end furthest from the joint) pointed down. If you don't pay attention to this, you will likely have some rework to do because the poles marked "h" only have a hole for the pin on one side. Otherwise assembly is straight forward. If you are installing it proper, and by that I mean by installing a concrete base that you will bolt the poles to, you will find assembly easier. The reason is because you can secure the poles to the concrete, assemble the top piece and have several people lift it onto those poles. The downside is, you have to get those concrete bases exactly right. But two people will not be lifting the top assembly onto those poles. If you cannot do that, you will have to assemble as I did by building it over the spot and that is far from easy. But I was able to get it done with just the assistance of my spouse. Update: I forgot to mention, this provides much better airflow than your traditional gazebo. When I had the 10x10 gazebo I had to use a fan to move air through. The traditional gazebo design is such that it restricts airflow. This design is much better in that regard. Thus, you are blocking direct sun rays and not blocking wind which means it is much cooler. ... show more

  • Perfect backyard canopy
Perfect sturdy & modern canopy - by sturdy, I mean STURDY. We added this to a section of our backyard that had all day sun. The canopy is very nice because the angles and height block the view from our neighbors. The unique shape of the canopy allows for breeze to flow. This thing is super super heavy. It’s actually not that complicated to assemble the pieces, but you will need a ladder and two people minimum, as the posts are very high. Basically you need to assemble that top part first. And then assemble each post, and then you need to lift the canopy onto the posts. It’s just very awkward and I imagine having three or four people for this part May be helpful. For you do it yourself ladies out there, I was able to assemble all of the pieces myself. And my teenage daughter helped me to lift it into place. The price point is phenomenal, it looks like it cost thousands of dollars. Over the years I have purchased the ubiquitous white carport canopies, which always collapse after a season. This butterfly canopy is so sturdy, I have a feeling it will last for many years. It also provides a great deal of shade. And so the canopy is comfortable to relax under. We set up a dining pavilion underneath, it is nice because the sun, and even the intense summer sun does not penetrate the canopy. And the butterfly shape allows for a nice cross breeze. The shade seems to decrease the temperature in the backyard. I am very satisfied with this purchase & highly recommend it! ... show more
