UPDATE: After about 2 months of light use, this cooktop started making our cookware shake when in use. This morning, something blew inside and the kitchen smelled like burned plastic. The cooktop kept working, but I forsee the end is near. Once you get familiar with induction cook tops, you'll love the fact that they heat quicky. You'll need to familiarize yourself with the different heat settings too. This COOKTRON single portable cooktop is perfect for our kitchenette and will also be used in our campervan. There is a rhythmic ticking-clicking sound when heating (not the regular booming sound). The Amazon technical assistant says it's expected as designed according to the manufacturer. Anyway, I found it too annoying so I took it back.

I got this cooktop as a supplement to the other single-burner induction cooktop we own. Our main gas cooktop is not functional, and before we buy an expensive 36” induction cooktop, we thought it would be a great idea to try the technology out first on a portable model. However, it’s been hard to get by with just one burner, so we tried a second. This cooktop is sleek looking, and it’s great that the cooking area is only hot underneath where the pan is. I thought it was interesting that there was wattage control, in addition to temperature control. However, I did not like that the temperature couldn’t be adjusted to whatever temp we desired. The temperature was only able to go up or down in 20 degree increments, which we found was sometimes too much, and sometimes too little. Here’s where our major problem lied: every time we used it, it would trip the GFCI outlet and circuit breaker! Perhaps it was too much wattage to use at the same time as our other cooktop? We tried lowering the wattage and it still turned the entire outlet (and circuit) off. So we are back to using our old cooktop and using one pan at a time. Really disappointed, since I wanted to be able to use both at the same time. ... show more
