  • Not enough hair to style, but don't want to shave scalp daily? Here's a solution
I am mostly bald. If I let my hair grow out it looks weird. I have been considering shaving my scalp, but I hate to shave and my face is more than enough. So up until now I have been getting my head cut short every 6 months and it looks ragged once it grows back. This arrived yesterday and I have used it only once, but this thing is easy to use. Every few weeks I can use it again and keep myself with what used to be called a "crew cut". I have very fine hair but it was still able to cut it well. Much easier to use than a standard trimmer if all you want is an even cut. My hands are fairly small and this is bigger than it looks, but no problem. If you have really small hands that might be an issue for you. Battery life is adequate, but you probably won't get more than 1 or 2 uses per charge. This being my first cut took longer than it will in the future, and I could just sense it was slowing a bit at the end of the cut. I generally lean towards corded appliances, but using this outdoors was a great way to avoid cleanup so cordless was useful. I am an engineer, so when they batteries fail I will replace them. FOLLOW UP I continue to really like this thing. Initially I couldn't get the hair near my ear adequately cut and would have to trim those spots, but with practice often I don't have to do that any more. It really is a game changer for anyone that just want a trim and be self sufficient. I just use it in the dry shower to catch the hair, then brush up the mess and then shower to get the hair off me. Recently I adjusted to use a slightly longer cut. ... show more

  • Prior planning prevents poor performance
There's nothing wrong with this device, despite all the negative reviews. You just have to think ahead before you shave your head. I didn't and I still survived the experience. 1. Not powered by a lithium battery. You must fully charge before using or you'll end up with a bad cut and be stuck with a botched 'do (and all your friends laughing at you) for hours until you can finish. 2. Hair, itty bitty prickly itchy bits of hair is going to get ALL over you. Pro tip: buy a barber cloak. Pro-am tip: cut 3 small slits in a (CLEAN) trash bag for your head and arms and wear it. SRSLY. 3. You'll still need a shower immediately after. 4. Use the oil. 5. The real start! Slowly but firmly drag the trimmer from the back to the front of your scalp in a straight line, doing this in rows. If your hair is longer or thicker, you want to give the clipper a shake at the end of each row, at least to start. Make sure you get the neckline carefully. 6. Now front to back in rows. Make sure to get your bangs and your hairline carefully or you'll have uneven spots, like a short widow's peak and longer bangs, or vice versa. 7. Now left to right. Make sure to get all around the ears and sideburns. I have a little Schick Quattro razor with a AAA powered beard trimmer I used to help with the most difficult areas. This clipper actually comes with a free 'partner' straight trimmer coupon by mail. 8. Right to left, same as 7. 9. Like the ears, here's the other part where a beard trimmer (or the free mailed-to-you trimmer) comes in handy: this clipper is pants at getting the back of your neck. Most electric razors have a simple trimmer attachment. That will work fine here. 10. The finishing touch. Kind of like you would with a rotary electric shaver, go around your entire head in tight circles, clockwise and counterclockwise over the entire area. Wax on/wax off. You'll actually be able to hear the difference in the sounds the clipper makes when you've got everything cut evenly and gotten all the tricky spots in the way your hair falls on your scalp. Comb it out again. Check the results with a mirror! Than go take a victory shower - even with all the combing there's still tons of trimmings stuck in your hair. The FIRST time you use it, if your hair is long, you'll want to repeat step five 2 or 3 times, using the included comb in between to get all the trimmings trapped in your hair, then repeat 6, 7 and 8 a couple times with combings in between. If you keep yourself trimmed up once or twice a week you probably won't have to do the steps repeatedly again after that - just the comb in between. Even with all my screw ups, total cutting time for me was less than 30 minutes the first time, but my hair was several inches long. Doing this twice a week doesn't even take me more than 5 minutes or so each time. And I've been complimented on my new spiky look several times already. I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 for one reason only - the lack of a lithium battery. ... show more

  • Good for a crew-cut style
Like a lot of reviewers I got this to keep my hair trimmed while the barbershops are shut down. I like my hair short and it had grown to about an inch and a half long. I charged the Even Cut overnight and used the clippers in a dry bathtub while not wearing a shirt for easier cleanup. With the longest guide on, I cut back-and-forth at first till my hair was short enough to use the circular motion. Like using an orbital sander or buffer. It got my hair down to less than 1/2 inch, about the same as a 3 or 4 clipper at the barber. Overall it worked nicely and gave me a very clean and even cut. You will need a standard clipper or an assistant with comb & scissors to trim around back and ears, the Even Cut doesn't really handle those areas very well. The price was pretty good, for me 2 haircuts and it paid for itself. It seems well-made and has a nice weight to it, not too heavy. The built-in batteries are the older NIMH technology, and I didn't see a way to open this up, so once the batteries start to lose power due to memory build-up then you probably have to junk it. it would have been nice if it used replaceable batteries or at least Li-on rechargeable technology. A few considerations. First, start with dry hair. Wet hair would clog this up pretty quickly and would be a PITA to clean up. The clipper itself isn't listed as waterproof so I doubt you can use it in the shower. Second, you have to stop and shake the hair out of the inside frequently. If you start with longer hair, it fills up pretty fast. If your hair is longer than an inch or so you probably want to use scissors to get it short enough to fit under the clipper. I definitely recommend using the Even Cut in a dry tub or outdoors with your shirt off or you will get hair everywhere. I think the Even Cut is best for maintaining short hair between regular cuts, or for athletes & military guys who just want a standard crew cut and like to keep it neat. If you are going for a particular style a standard clipper is probably the better choice. ... show more

  • Cuts chunks of hair way shorter because of design...
I received this in the mail a few days ago... Charged for 22 hours; the light was still red, indicating it was not finished charging. Strange. I thought I'd try cutting my hair with it to see how it works. I have cut my own hair for years and have used multiple types of clippers, but this is the first rotary version like this I have tried. I usually cut my hair with standard, chorded clippers on a 1 setting; I like it nice and short, but not like a Bic. I read reviews saying that this clipper is best for real short cuts like mine. Not true, let me explain. The trimmer design is open in the middle, like a hole, so if you push hard AT ALL you will have little folds of skin pushed up higher, making the trim in those spots closer than other spots. I did not realize this, so when I tried to get closer to my ear, the trimmer cut all the way down to the skin. This also happened on the back of my head when I accidentally looked up while shaving and the skin folded a little (I'm not fat, it's not like the back of my neck looks like a pack of hot dogs. I'm guessing it was the 'slight' pressure applied to the trimmers?). So, now I have multiple spots on my head shaved way closer than the rest... Very embarrassing. I'm not looking forward to going into the office this week. My colleagues are going to have a lot of fun with this one. My normal trimmer will press all of the skin down evenly with the #1 guard on so that I don't have to worry about this issue experienced with the ConairMAN trimmer. I do not trust this set of clippers and will be returning asap. ... show more

  • Very short cut - even on the number 4
We did not expect the cut to be so short for the #4. But hair grows back, no biggy. You must charge for 16 hours prior to using. But the light never changed from red to green, but the manual does not mention the light re" charfge so maybe it's not an issue. Why is there a green light then? Anyway, we cut my husband's long covid hair to the one inch length as recommended in the manual. no problem. Then we ran the conair over his scalp as directed. Took maybe 10-15 mins? Hubby's hair is very thin but he has full head of it. I don't know if that affects the outcome, because like I said, the cut for #4 is VERY short. Almost like #2 from barber. Shorter than he likes, but we're ok with it. Still need to manually trim around ears and lower neck, I suppose that's why barbers use blade or trimmer. It is NOT perfect but good enough. ... show more

  • Great performance provided you have very short hair and trim to uniform length
This is a perfect haircutting solution provided that you have short hair (ideally less than 1/2 inch) and want to cut it to uniform length. If you have longer hair, or want varying lengths, there are better options. For me this is perfect. It replaces an old Remington that was shaped like a hairbrush. It was very simple to use (don't know why they no longer make it) and cut great. This Conair, while shaped differently, is almost as easy to use. Due to the size and shape it can be challenging to get behind my ears, but for everywhere else, it is excellent. It's easier to use than conventional clippers and provides a more even cut. The battery life is great, and I very much like that it can be used while charging. That ensures that the cutter will continue to be usable even when the battery fails to take a charge (inevitable). The build quality feels pretty solid, so I expect it will last for some time. A great trimmer - five stars. ... show more

  • Happy with my purchase.
Wanted to use this for awhile before I reviewed it...it's been a excellent purchase used it many times and it has paid for itself by not having to go to a barber and paying for a simple cut like mine...definitely recommend it if you like your haircut the same all around.

  • Easily prone to mishaps for anything besides bald
I can only recommend this product if you have a massively sized head or your just doing a bald cut. Due to the inner diameter of the ring clippers, you will easily cut beyond your guard settings causing bald spots and inconsistent lengths. If the device was half the diameter, that would help with the percission and minimize errors. A fouth of the diameter would honestly be ideal. ... show more
