The Handheld Ice Shaving Machine required only a little assembly (screwing the crank onto the top) and the mandatory wash with dish soap and water, before its first test. Please note there is a very clear sheet of plastic (non-adhesive) over the cutting blade, but that comes out easily during the initial washing. Washed and dried, I placed about two cups of ice-maker ice in the upper part of the shaver, pressed the spring-loaded top down with a quarter-turn clockwise, and I was loaded, locked and ready. The instructions say to press down while turning the crank, but I didn't find that necessary, as the spring provides the pressure. It took a couple of turns for my ice to settle and then the shavings began to accumulate. I was impressed and so was my wife. Shaved ice so easy. The next test came a few hours later. The ice shaving machine came with a small round plastic container with a lid. I'd washed and dried that along with the ice shaver, and then filled the container (not quite full, since ice expands), put the lid on, and put the container in the freezer. Once the ice container was well frozen, I removed it from the freezer, placed it in a shallow bowl with hot water for 60 seconds, and out slid a nice round puck of ice. Placed in the ice shaver, the ice-puck worked even better than the ice cubes. I plan to use the ice-cup to freeze ice-pucks, remove them from the cup, and store a few in the freezer in a zip close bag for gatherings with friends. I've also tried making an ice-puck with a one-cup plastic measuring cup with sloped sides, and it worked just a well. My wife and I both like the ice-shaver and the possibilities it will bring to our summer gatherings with friends. That's worthy of five-stars, and we recommend this ice shaver based on our own experience.

This product looks really cool and functions well out of the box. The design is sleek and modern, making it a standout addition. My only concern is that some parts might wear down over time and shed plastic, but so far it’s holding up nicely. It feels sturdy during regular use and hasn’t shown any signs of damage yet. Overall, a solid choice with just a slight worry about longevity.

The media could not be loaded. This is perfect if you want to integrate the kids into some fun activity while teaching them some home values. It is super easy to use and you can do many things with it. I had the kids try it out while teaching them how you can have fun without electricity and how this can turn into a great dessert. First time I try it I use my regular ice cubes that the refrigerator makes, which are the ones like half moon shape and although it did shave the ice they were some chunks that went through so I had a flexible cube mold and made some ice and it works great. After the kids took turns using the Handheld Ice Shave I took some grenadine syrup and add it on top and wallah you got an easy dessert that not only kids and adults can enjoy but you get to control the sugar in it. Also, you can freeze juice on molds and have the kids or yourself shave the ice into a delicious cooling dessert or ice cream if you want to call it that way. Great for summer weather and anytime you feel like have a sweet tooth. It is a great price for endless of family or gathering time with friends. Let them take turns and enjoy the moment. Memories will last forever. Oh! I forgot to also mention that if you want to make ice adult drinks for friends this would be great.

It took me a couple tries before I realized that the plastic flexible container was actually an ice mold for the shaver. Before that, I was using good ol' ice cubes. Good thing I figured that out (which the instructions don't explain, but easy to follow for assembly) - because ice cubes don't yield the most consistent shaved ice. Definitely need the mold. Even then, capacity from that single mold is good for one person - maybe can stretch it for two people if both only want a light dessert. What would take this product to 5 stars would be including extra instructions making it very clear that the plastic container is an ice mold for the shaver, plus maybe including one or two extra molds in the box, or at least making that an add-on option. Otherwise the shaver is easy to use and - using the ice mold - yields perfectly competent shaved ice.

This gadget is a fun way to shave ice, and it actually does a great job—the ice comes out in just the right size, not too chunky or too fine. It could be a hit with kids, but the mechanism can occasionally get stuck and the parts might come apart if you're not careful, so it’s probably better suited for teens and adults. With another hot summer ahead, it's a handy tool to have around. I couldn't find syrup flavoring at my local store, but it’s easy enough to order online. Or you can get creative and use juice or other mix-ins.

Ever since we visited Hawaii, I've been on the search for a shaved ice device I could use at home. While this one isn't perfect, it does come closer than the other devices I've tried. Once you get the gist of it, it is easy to use. It is a bit clunky and you can only make one serving at a time. Also, while it is much closer to an ice shaver, it is still more akin to a snow cone from the ice cream man texture than a shaved ice in the texture and fineness of the results.
