  • This Will Be My New Vlogging Microphone
Color: Red
Overall, I will say that I am impressed with this Comica Shotgun microphone. It’s tremendous value for the money and I will explain why. Cons: • It feels cheap and plasticky, so try not to beat it up or throw it in your bag carelessly. • It doesn’t come with a windmuff/deadcat, so you’ll need to either buy it separate or use a different one you currently have. • It has a switch between smartphone and DSLR/Mirrorless camera modes. If you forget to switch to the appropriate mode, it won’t record audio properly. Pros: • The audio quality of the recording is BETTER in the Comica Mic than my RODE VideoMicro Compact (this was the best competitor to compare it to). It captured my voice louder and with more clarity. • It has a great design to where the mic doesn’t physically bounce rapidly like the RODE version does. • It’s also a plug-and-play device (minus the camera modes you must remember to set) so you don’t need to always think about the device being on or off. My suggestion is; if you know you’ll be using it for a smartphone that day, then immediately flip the switch to smartphone mode and vice versa for a real camera. • Like the Rode mic, it has a hot/cold shoe mount design so it attaches easily to your camera’s hot shoe or your smartphone hot shoe mount, if it has one. I haven’t had this long enough to do a longevity test and find out how this performs after repeated uses and abuse, but from initial tests, this mic is already performing better than my Rode . For a few dollars less than the Rode VideoMicro Compact, it’s capturing audio better than the Rode. You just have to deal with a couple quirks; but nothing bad enough to detract you from completely using it. I’ll be adding a video review of this Comica CVM-V30 Shotgun Microphone as soon as it is completed and uploaded and will attach it to this review entry. Who is this product for? I suggest this going to anyone shooting video for social media or YouTube. For more professional projects (including those during inclement weather and rough environments), there are better options. But if you’re starting out, doing this for social media and YouTube and want excellent audio clarity, this microphone is worth the purchase! ... show more

  • Good, but maybe not on all cameras..?
Color: Red
The media could not be loaded. Overall the mic seems to work good. So far I have tested it on a Hc-V7700, a Vixia Hf R500 and a Samsung Galaxy S9 plus. I can say when It worked it was better than the built in mics on these devices. Talking sounded Bassier and more true to life, and the mic didn't seem overly sensitive to direction. Meaning if it was a couple of degrees high or low to the subject I didn't notice huge sound quality reduction. Notice less camera hum and background noise while using it. The problem I ran into is on one of my cameras (Hf R500) the mic didn't work at all whether set to Camera Mode or Phone mode. I don't think this is the Mics fault though, I think it's possible that that camera doesn't have a pre amp in it for the mic and thereby needs one that is powered. That actually does bring me to one of the big advantages this mic has... Running without batteries... I bought a good external mic awhile ago for my YouTube channel but after a few tries I gave up using it. The problem I kept running into was either forgetting to switch the mic on, or the batteries dying... This killed me as I lost hours of footage by doing this... The fact that this mic requires no batteries and just is plug and play is great. I see myself much more likely to use this mic as I don't need to worry about that with it. Otherwise the mic seems okay build quality wise, I wouldn't call it rugged by any means but by itself I could see it handling a few drops but that is mainly because of how light it is. Otherwise if you drop it while attached to a heavy camera which lands a top it, I think chances of something getting snapped is probably pretty high. The fact that this camera includes no amp built in though and the rather simple light design I would hope to see it priced more around $25-30 instead of $40 but that may just be me. One thing to consider is this does sound better than some $80 externals I've played with so I guess it comes down to the price being overall okay but not anything better. One last thing, the first one I got was defective and the company replaced it without issue. ... show more
