Zippered pockets are featured on each side to secure your small items. Adjustable, velcro cuffs and an adjustable drawcord hem help give this jacket a customizable fit. I needed a new waterproof and breathable rain jack and bought this on. I looked at the reviews and prices and I also trusted the Columbia name. I'm an old(er) man and though Columbia and I have both been around a long time, I've never bought one of their products before. This jacket does what its claimed to do, keeps me dry and its breathable. It also lightweight and packs small. Since I've just bought it, I can't say anything about its durability or longevity, but it seems well-made, should go the distance and the company has a good reputation. My old rain jacket was wearing out after only a couple of decades (how about that) so it was time. Personally, I don't like products with large visible logos but I ate the bullet on this one and bought it anyway. I would have paid more for the same item without a logo, but that may be just me. Finally, I would say that I'd buy this jacket again, hopefully after a decade or more of use. By then, I'll be really old ... show more

This is the perfect rain jacket for a college student. It is true to size, packs easily in my backpack and is always on hand in case of rain and heavy wind. It is also a great price point for a college student on a budget.

    • Overall I am very happy with this jacket
Overall I am very happy with this jacket. It works especially well for those who spend a lot of time outdoors camping, fishing, hiking, etc. The areas that I think are the most important to consider are water resistance, comfort, breathability, and fit. 1.) Water resistance - I have owned this jacket for a couple months now, and I have had it out in steady rain and downpours. It has not leaked at all. The true test will come with time as the waterproof coating starts to wear off, but so far so good. The seams have extra waterproofing that you can see, which is very important because that’s where other jackets usually start leaking from. 2.) Comfort - I was impressed with the comfort of the jacket, the mesh lining keeps the waterproof fabric from getting too close or sticking to your skin, especially when it’s hot outside. It doesn’t have that ‘plastic’ feeling on the lining that other jackets, especially in the sleeves. It is packable by pulling the left pocket inside out and stuffing it into itself. The zipper is two-way, which allows you to zip it up when you pack it. 3.) Breathability - It is very breathable! I mostly use it when I am fishing, and most of the time I am out when the humidity is above 90% so it is important to me that I don’t get soaking wet from sweat. I don’t want to be wet from rain or sweat. The zippers in the armpits are very handy and make a huge difference, they are also very convenient to use. 4.) Fit - The fit was perfect. (I am 6’3’’ 190 lbs.) The reviews that I read before buying it had me debating whether or not to get the XL; some said that the sleeves tend to be on the shorter side. The sleeves aren’t too tight so when it gets colder it will be easy to put more layers on. It’s long enough to cover my pockets completely so I don’t have to worry about its contents getting damaged, which is nice. Pacific Tech made my last rain jacket, which was also pretty good. The waterproof lining on the inside did eventually wear out and was no longer waterproof, so that’s why bought a new one. It did have stronger zippers than that of the Columbia, which is my only complaint. This jacket cost me about 38 dollars. I would have preferred a black one, but that was about 20 dollars more. It is a high quality jacket that provides exceptional water protection, comfort, and performance. It is well worth the money! ... show more

    • Reliable Lightweight Rain Shell From Columbia At A Reasonable Price

TL;DR: Lightweight, packable rain shell that keeps you dry for a fair price, best used with layers underneath. The Columbia Watertight II jacket is a straightforward shell that focuses on one job: blocking wind and rain. In my experience it does that reliably. The fabric sheds light and moderate rain well, and the seams and zipper flaps help keep water from sneaking in through the front. It is not insulated, which is a positive if you want flexibility. On cooler days I add a fleece or hoodie underneath; on warmer rainy days the shell alone is enough. Fit is practical rather than fashion focused. The cut allows a mid layer without feeling tight, and the hem and cuffs can be adjusted so wind does not blow up the sleeves or bottom. The hood offers decent coverage and cinches down well enough that it stays in place when you turn your head. As always with clothing, though, this is only an opinion, not objective truth, since body shapes and preferences vary a lot. What I appreciate most is how packable the jacket is. It folds into a small bundle that fits easily in a backpack or car compartment, so it is an easy “just in case” layer for travel or errands. The fabric is a bit crinkly, which is typical for this type of rain shell, but it has held up as expected so far without noticeable wear. Pockets are simple but useful for keys, phone, or wallet when you are caught in a shower. If you want a no nonsense, budget friendly rain jacket from a reputable brand and you are willing to layer for warmth, this is a solid option.
