I brought this coat for my husband and he is in love with it. He stated it is very comfy and warm as it is very cold here in Pennsylvania.

  • Nice jacket - Update
Color: Elderberry/Collegiate Navy Size: Large
In 1997 I purchased a Columbia coat to go skiing in Colorado. It was a 3-1 one coat. The negatives were no hood, not wind or water proof. Last week the zipper slide on the inner coat broke. I replaced the slide and washed both the inner and out coat. The zipper on the outer coat tore in the wash. As I had torn the left sleeve last year, I decided it might be time to purchase a new winter coat (after 25 years of rough wear and tear, I figure I got my moneys worth out of that coat). I found the Tipton Peak II at Dick's Sporting Goods. The Medium was too tight (just a smidge) in the shoulders. I ordered a large from Amazon. It arrived in new condition, a day early. I'm 6'.0", 160Lbs, 32" waist, 42" chest. I wear a 16' neck and 35" sleeve. The large is perfect in the shoulders, a smidge long in the arms (not a problem), the body of the coat is very roomy, it could come in a bit, but it isn't so big that it looks oversized. I suspect a guy 6'1" 200 Lbs would find it about the right size. The large leaves some comfortable room for me to layer. Pro's: The coat appears to be well made, tight woven outer fabric appears sturdy and it's advertised as waterproof, I'm thinking it will be windproof as well (as opposed to my other coat which was neither). The hand warmer pockets (very thin fleece) are roomy and secure with a zipper. There is an outer left breast pocket and an inner right breast pocket (both roomy and secure with a zipper). Also an attached hood (roomy and insulated) (Huge plus for me). I was skeptical of the Omni heat liner despite other positive reviews. It does appear to function as promised, I began to over heat just trying the coat on. I'll have to wait for colder weather to be sure. I gave the coat 4 stars. Cons: The main zipper is lighter and smaller than the one on my last coat (it lasted 25 years) Time will tell if the lighter zipper will perform as well. The zipper flap attaches with Velcro. Though some may like the Velcro , I prefer snaps (my last coat had heavy duty snaps). There is no draw string at the waist. I feel they could have added an outer right breast pocket and an inner left breast pocket (more pockets = more better), even one on a sleeve. The Omni heat liner is thin and feels flimsy, hopefully it doesn't tear easily. All in all, for the sale price of $120.00 it appears to be a really decent coat. However, I would not have purchased it for the original retail price of $180.00. Update 12/21/22 - I've had the opportunity to wear the coat in wind, rain and cold weather. The coat is windproof, which is awesome. I spent 40 minutes in a light rain and remained dry and comfortable. In 40 degree Fahrenheit weather, I was comfortable with the coat and a t-shirt. At 35 degrees, I needed a sweatshirt (I'm thin and hate cold). Colder than 35 degrees, I wear a thermal top (wool or wool blend) and a sweatshirt under the coat. At 20 degrees with the aforementioned layering, I was quite comfortable. I was skeptical of the Omni heat liner, it seems to work. The coat is quite comfortable to wear and allows for ease of movement. It doesn't really need a center draw string as I fist suggested, though it would be nice, the lower drawstring is sufficient to keep out wind. I absolutely love the hood!!! (Yep, you counted correctly, that's three exclamation points) It's adjustable, and insulated just enough to keep your head warm, should you decide you need a headband or stocking cap, there is plenty of room under the hood for an additional layer. The existing pockets are functional and roomy. The hand warmer pockets are lightly lined and warm. The extra pockets I mentioned in my original post would have been a nice addition, though I can't say I really have had need of extra storage space. More pockets are just more better. Still not a fan of the Velcro zipper flap cover, snaps would be better. I think the Velcro looks cheap and it tends to catch as I'm unzipping the coat. I thought a parka zipper would be better, but have had no issues with the smaller zipper. It may actually be sturdier over time, time will tell. I would upgrade my star rating except for the Velcro zipper flap. I really like the coat. ... show more
