I'm so happy Columbia added an omni-heat lining to the powder lite jacket this year! My son hates thick coats, and always puts up a fight if I try to make him wear something heavy. The last couple of years we've used the Columbia tree time puffer, which was lightweight enough for my son's preference, but not quite warm enough for temperatures below 30ยฐ. The new powder lite is both lightweight, and plenty warm. I bought one with omni-heat for myself last winter, and only needed to layer below 20ยฐ. It's very toasty. I am a tad disappointed that the arms do not have the omni-heat lining. Hopefully this doesn't compromise the warmth. The hood is nice and deep, and you can tighten the bottom hem up to keep the cold out through cords in the pockets. For sizing, I went by Columbia's size chart. My son is 8 years old, and small for his age. I measured his chest at 26 inches. The small fits perfectly, and unless we have a major growth spurt, it should fit next year. Overall, my son loves it, and it keeps him warm. I always feel like I get a good value with Columbia as well. I would hate to spend a fortune on something they only wear for a couple of years. My son loves the jacket. He is 13 yrs old and hates big and bulky jackets. This jacket had the right amount of puffer to keep him warm even in 30 degree temps. When in the 20's and below he puts on a thick hoodie underneath and is still warm. Of course, he is one of the warm blooded ones. My issue is that the large was a bit fitting with a thick hoodie under so I wish I had gotten a size up and $80. I thought was a bit much. I guess it's for the Columbia name.
