  • Perfect Travel Solution for Fresh Coffee
Color: Silver
I purchased this stainless press for an 18 day trip to the Philippines. Since everyone has those electric water kettles, I was able to easily have fresh delicious coffee everyday with this press. Even the last three days at Okada Manila I was able to make fresh coffee since they also had an electric kettle in the room, although a smaller hotel sized one than the standard residential size i had at my relative's house. I brought enough coarse French press ground French roast coffee for 18 days in a couple ziplock bags and it thankfully made it through security at SFO along with the press in my carry-on. TSA simply swabbed the outside of the ziplock with some sort of test solution. They didn't open the ziplocks or stir the coffee grounds. I heard that folks who put coffee in check-in luggage usually find it all over their luggage when unpacking, so I opted for carry-on transport, with the worst option being TSA making me throw it away at the checkpoint. Better than my clothes in luggage smelling like coffee. The press didn't give a weird taste to the coffee as other presses were complained about in Amazon reviews. I skipped warming the press up first, per the instructions, since I didn't want to waste relative's filtered water they pay for in the Philippines. I just added my 6-8 tablespoons of grounds to the press and filled to the fill mark inside with boiling water, stirred the grounds, and started my iPhone timer for 4 minutes with Siri. Coffee was great every time and relatives got to enjoy it, as well. I started putting in only 6 tablespoons because 8 was honestly just too strong. But, 8 tablespoons is certainly a great tasting cup of coffee, as well. The mesh press fit the inside diameter just fine and no grounds were ever present in the poured coffee. The press' handle did not break off like some similar designed presses on Amazon other reviewer's complained about, and the press plunger action was smooth and consistent every time. The construction of the press is solid and it didn't dent at all during my trip. I'm not sure how long it keeps coffee hot as I didn't want the coffee to over-steep, so I poured the remaining coffee out into a large measuring cup I brought after filling my own carrafe, so it wasn't too bitter. The press is easy to clean. I only wish I also brought a long spoon to get the grounds out of the bottom of the press as I only had a small tea stirring spoon to work with when I got to the hotel at the end of my trip. My hand was just small enough to fit inside the press to get to the bottom to scrape out the grounds. My large measuring cup, the press, the ground coffee, and a tablespoon measuring spoon was a great kit to bring. The included glass travel jar fits 8 tablespoons of grounds. I brought it filled with grounds but didn't need to use it as I didn't go on any side trips and had access to my ziplock full of coffee grounds the whole trip. But, it's a nice travel jar, although not airtight, since the coffee smell made it out easily. I did test my press several times before packing for my trip to ensure it worked well. Overall, this is a great press, especially for someone who's trying a French press for the first time, and it definitely is a great travel press model. ... show more

  • Really nice French press with a few points to keep in mind
Color: Silver
Definitely a well-built and attractive unit. We are very pleased with the ease of use and the spout which does not leak or splatter when pouring coffee (unlike some other brands we have used). Aesthetics and construction - 5+ stars! I have yet to experience the coating flaking off as others have stated, but I don't put mine in the dishwasher and use a soft cloth/brush to hand wash it. The *only* disappointment is that the coffee does not stay nearly as hot if you let it stay in the coffee maker (which you really shouldn't do anyway, see my comment later about that). I always pour extremely hot water into the unit, let it stand for a minute to "preheat" the container, pour it out and then add the coarse ground coffee and add new hot water from our tea kettle. Still, the coffee drops in temperature faster than we would have expected for a vacuum insulated unit. THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE A THERMOS CONTAINER Others have stated that the coffee becomes bitter when drinking the 2nd cup, but this is true with all French presses if you leave the coffee grinds in the press with the coffee after it brews. Many "coffee purists" suggest that you let the hot water "brew" in the press for the appropriate amount of time (varies depending on coffee, grind size, and your taste), and then immediately pour the entire contents into a preheated thermos or container to separate the brewed coffee from the grinds. This in itself solves the dropping temperature issue as I pour it into a high quality, vacuum sealed thermos which keeps the coffee hot longer. I use a Zojirushi stainless bottle which I bought on Amazon and works well. The coffee stays hot for hours though my work morning. Cleaning is typical for a French press...you just have to thoroughly wash the filter with running water until all of the grinds come loose. You may need to use a soft bristle brush or toothbrush to do a thorough cleaning. Also watch out for some of the sharp edges on the attachment while you operate the press and/or clean it. I've cut my finger already! METAL VS GLASS DEBATE The only other comment I have to make is that metal coffee presses and thermoses can affect the flavor of coffee. In fact, I prefer my coffee made in glass and poured into glass or ceramic cups but the difference is so negligible that only a few connoisseurs will tell the difference. ... show more

  • Well Built for Great Coffee
Color: Silver
This is my first and only french press, but from what I've experienced, it's been awesome. This of course gives the delicious coffee you'd expect, but the key factor for this thing is the build quality. It's super solid, from the container to the press pieces. Everything fits and works really well and gives the impression that it will continue to do so. After reading how the colors chip over time, I went with the stainless steel and am so glad I did. It looks great and should continue to do so. One of the biggest reasons I chose this one was because of the company. I haven't had to deal with them, but they appear to be one of those cool, customer focused companies that have put a little extra into the quality side of things and will do anything to make sure you're happy with their products. Just make sure you hand wash all the parts, I would not recommend using the dishwasher. The brewing process: I grind the coffee and little finer than normal french press standards and it works great to give extra flavor (saw a video on this). I get the water to a boil and let it sit a few minutes to cool down. Gator suggests a 9 minute steep with a stir midway through (to remove the foam), but I skip the stir and it turns out great (foam adds flavor!). I then decanter the coffee which is crucial (I use a metal insulated water bottle). This not only keeps the coffee hot, but also allows the sediment to settle. The double screen filters work well and if you're getting too much sediment then you're probably grinding your coffee too fine. The main factor for how the coffee turns out has been the grind consistency. But there's a pretty good window to getting it right even with a blade grinder. I'll also say that if you do go too fine, it's not too big of a deal, because if you used the decanter, it just makes the last couple of ounces of coffee undrinkable - better than weak coffee from having grounds too coarse. Other than that, just make sure you don't burn it or go over 9 mins and you're golden. Super fun process, but just be ready for cleanup, I use a rubber spatula to get the coffee into the trash can (I don't suggest putting it into the garbage disposal). Overall super pleased and I look forward to making the coffee every time I use this thing. ... show more

  • More fashion than function.
Color: Gray
I purchased this to have a french press for my office to make better fresh coffee than using a K-Cup. I'm a sucker for grey metal and thought this would look a bit better in the office so I figured I'd give it a shot and after using it a few times, have come to find a few key differentiators between this French Press and others on the market. I've also identified a few drawbacks I found with the press. Differentiators: 1) The filter they have on the press part is awesome. I've used a lot of different french presses and this one has a really nice fine filter component that is comprised of two layers rather than just one. It works really well, even when I grind the coffee a touch to much. 2) The looks - In my opinion, it definitely looks a lot better on my office shelf than the traditional glass style FP. 3) Customer Service - When I initially wrote my review siting some of the drawbacks I had with my initial use of the FP, their customer service team reached out to me. What was unique was rather than trying to just rebate the cost or send a new item, they wanted to hear about my experience. This is a subtle but important difference in my opinion which shows the company is not only trying to do right by their customers, but also looking to hear and improve what they do based on feedback. Drawbacks: 1) When I received it, there were a bunch of scratches and what look like palm prints on the stainless steel lid. Not too big of an issue functionally, but when I purchased it in large part to it's look this is is kind of a bummer. 2) The metal inside makes a pretty terrible noise when the metal press rubs against it. It is also rough unlike my other stainless steel drink containers which are smooth so I'm concerned over time this will become impossible to keep clean. 3) The website and descriptions talk at long length about how well this will keep coffee hot after brewing - and I'm sure it will. I personally pour my left over/next cup into a thermos so the coffee won't continue to brew and become bitter while sitting in the french press. Bottom line: It brews coffee like any other french press, it's a young company who is really trying to do something different towards the goal of making great coffee, and if you want a touch of design with your coffee this is a good choice. ... show more

  • Go buy one.
Color: Gray
I previously owned an insulated french press that I purchased many years ago from Starbucks. (I wanna say that I bought it like...8 years ago). anyway, it was time to retire the thing. The handle had broken off, it leaked, the plastic part of the lid had cracked in a way that made it rather dangerous to use. But, I was stubborn, and didn't want to get rid of it. I mean, that coffee pot was my longest relationship, how could I give it up!? But, finally, it was time. So I went on the search for a comparable replacement that could handle my 2-3 pots-per-day usage and wouldn't break. After some research and searching around town for something I liked, I stumbled across the Coffee Gator on Amazon. I'll admit, I immediately liked it because of the name. I mean, come on, Coffee Gator? It sounds cool. So I read some reviews, and finally decided to buy one. It arrived in the mail 2 days later and I opened it up, excited for my new kitchen toy. It was in a pretty box, packaged up all nice, and I immediately put it to work. And omg, it's amazing!! The double filter really does make a difference. (I was a little dubious about this before trying it out), and my coffee is more of a drink, and less of a 'snack' now. I had gotten used to having some grounds in my coffee, and didn't mind it, but gosh, it's nice to just drink coffee without stuff in it. It keeps the coffee about as hot as my old one did (in it's prime). So as far as that goes, I'd say it's about average compared to other insulated presses. (I also have a glass press that I use for tea, and that gets cold really quickly, so it's better than those for sure) The thing I like best about it, is that there are no plastic pieces to break off. The spout and handle are firmly attached (Welded?) to the pot, so they shouldn't come off. And the lid/plunger are metal as well. But not the kind of metal that makes your hands stink. I bought the gunmetal grey one, and just as a purely aesthetic comment, it's not as dark as it is in the Amazon pictures. Just fyi. It's still grey...but not really that dark. Which is fine. Oh, and it's not as heavy as it looks. I was expecting it to be pretty weighty, but it's not. It's not gonna give you a workout at 6am when you roll out of bed. So ya, bottom line, I couldn't be happier. I would absolutely purchase again if a tank ran over my current one and managed to break it. And I would absolutely recommend it to anyone that loves coffee. And they say it's expensive, but for any insulated press you're gonna get into pretty pricey territory, and this one certainly is worth it. 10/10 Thanks, Coffee Gator!! oh, and the little container that comes with it, is adorable. I'll never use it for coffee, but damn, it's cute. Edit: It's 2024 now. I have move across the country twice, gotten married, and still have my trusty Gator french press. I still use it at least once a day and it makes the coffee as wonderfully delicious as it did when I first bought it. I have changed the filters, washed it so much that the "gunmetal grey" came off and now it's solid silver. The ONLY thing that has broken was the top of the plunger, and that's only because it got dropped...hard. Right on its head. So yeah, go buy one. It's probably the best thing I've ever gotten on Amazon. Happy coffee drinking!! ... show more

Absolutely! Here’s a polished, friendly-yet-robust review you can post online or on social media: --- ✨ Five Stars for My New Favorite French Press! ☕️ I’m seriously impressed with this insulated French press—it’s everything I didn’t know I needed. First of all, it’s sleek and modern, with a cool, minimalist rod-style handle that looks great on my counter and feels solid in my hand. But functionally? Even better. The double-walled insulation keeps my coffee (or tea!) warm for hours without that scorched or bitter aftertaste. No more rushing to drink it all before it cools. And the added bonus? It comes with a compact storage container for coffee grounds that’s just as well-designed—perfect for travel or stashing on a tidy shelf. It’s clear this was made with both form and function in mind.
