This replaced my old Escort Passport 8500; I wanted something newer and with a dashcam without adding another device to my windshield. I installed this and then drove ~500 miles over the holiday weekend. Installation was very quick and easy, and app setup was pretty intuitive. First impressions are very favorable - the device is more accurate than my old unit (which I left in place for part of my drive for comparison purposes). It picked up several signals ten or so seconds quicker than the old machine. I also like the easy access to hard buttons on the face of the device to mark fixed radar locations or to mute; this is a lot easier to use compared to buttons on the top that cannot be seen while driving. The iRadar app is good too - it provides a pretty easy to use interface to set the detector up the way you prefer (I live in a city so I turned X-band off immediately). You can also pick and choose which segments of other bands to include or ignore. There is a pretty big difference in volume between the voice alerts and the regular alerts though; I'd like these to be better balanced. As it is, the voice alerts are much quieter than the standard signals. Maybe I can balance these mysef, but I've not yet figured out how to do so. *UPDATE - Looks like there is a firmware update that addresses the volume issue. I'm testing it out this weekend, but so far it seems to fix this problem* In general though I'm very happy with the purchase. Works better than my old device, the app is super slick, especially in cities where the crowd-sourced info has a lot of users, and the controls are easier to access and use. Time will tell whether it truly is as effective but it's off to a good start.

Had the Road Scout for less than a month; didn’t function properly even after instructions - online manual and Quick Start Guide followed to the letter. Problems: wouldn’t properly pair radar detector to IOS phone iRadar app. Always had to restart by deleting the device and starting over and pairing each time. Annoying! Also, marking a location, returning thru the same location 15 minutes later, the RS had forgotten the mark. And, while it seems like a quality item, it didn’t perform as it was supposed to. Returned unit for credit. Overall rating I give it: C+

The one I bought my husband a few years ago still works great, the one that I recently purchased for myself resets randomly, but I love the fact it has the radar, current speed, and camera. Has Bluetooth connection, which my husband has used, but not sure for what other then updates

Don't trust all the payed reviews! I REALLY wanted to like this all in one unit. 1. Not accurate. Radar would trigger and would not stop for 100 miles even if I changed the sensitivity to low. Did this on every test run. 2. If you get near any wifi signal, the video gets choppy. Can't download videos to phone either. 3. Speedometer was off by 5 mph. Tested against 2 other devices including a radar gun. 4. Wifi and Bluetooth worked as they should when connected to phone but the device would not update settings via apps. Had to do it manually through the device. 5a. Coding is a mess. If you turned off K band, k band would still show up. You have have to turn off each K band channel (4 additional settings) to silence K band completely. 5b. After spending the time to set up the device, if it loses power or you turn it off manually with the power button, the device wouldn't keep your settings. You would have to start over each time. Also you can't turn it on after using the power button. Overall, it was a good idea but very poorly made, even with R08 software update.

This past week I have been testing the Cobra Road Scout in 2 vehicles: 2019 Corvette ZR1 and a 2019 Ford F-250. I’ve been very impressed with the features and functionality of the Road Scout! The radar detector works flawlessly and has easily heard audible notices of what band is being detected. In combination with the Cobra iRadar app, even more user friendly options and customization becomes available including GPS based speed limits. In the app, the user can set several different parameters of speed warnings and mark known locations of speed traps, speed cameras, etc. The addition of a built in HD Dash Cam sets this radar detector apart from its competition. The stable mounting and live feed to your phone for review make it incredibly user friendly! I highly recommend the Road Scout, as I prefer it over the several other detectors I have used and currently own. I will be purchasing more Road Scouts for my other vehicles!

REVISED REVIEW. TLDR I was having major problems after a year with this unit. It eventually stopped recording video and after an emergency situation when I needed the video the files were all 0kb (assuming corruption). It intermittently recorded videos until recently it completely stopped and just made 0kb files if it wrote anything at all. The memory card was changed and was flawless SanDisk Endurance 100MBps read/write the card was also tested and validated every sector read/write and speed. The radar at least worked so that was all it could do. After so much frustration I was going to throw it in the trash and get something else. So since I was going to throw it away why not take it apart and do some exploratory surgery! The unit comes apart very easily after taking out 4 screws off the bottom and there is a few screws on the main board that releases everything. All the components are connected with a ribbon cable. Checked it all out unplugged it all and cleaned the cables and re-seated them back in the appropriate connector. Using a LAB power supply for my electronics I powered it up with the memory card in it and connected with my cell phone and all of a sudden I got a live video feed (this didnt work before). I let it sit on my desk for about 45 min just recording and then checked the sd card and there were complete files. The issue was a bad connection to the camera (I believe) its now working like new again - UGH! SO it's spared from going in the trash now. I wish Cobra would have soldered these connectors I think normal vibrations shook them loose causing the issue I had of no video feed or recordings.

I use the detector inside the windshield of my motorcycle. It picks up a lot farther than my husband’s Passport (in all fairness, it’s much older and my husband doesn’t give it the best line of sight.) I like how I can exclude radars common to other vehicles that would set it off. Sometimes I can’t hear the beeps because of music playing in my helmet but it also lights up and catches my attention. It tells me my speed which is neither here nor there and in most major roads it knows the speed limit and tries to alert me but since I’m not riding with my glasses to see up close, that function is a wash. The built in camera is really great. Very clear and even the sound recording is great. I didn’t know it would do that until my husband played it on a computer and I could hear myself singing. (I’m not a songbird. 😁) The magnetic catch is really strong and I’ve only had it fall off one time when I hit a seriously bad pot hole in a construction zone. It shook the whole bike so badly, it’s a wonder I didn’t fall off. But since the detector is connected by its power cord, I was able to grab it up and click it back in place. I love this detector so much, I’m buying a second one to replace my husband’s older Passport.
