I bought this from the foxalien site because of the generous $1,000 promotional deal I'll start off with the good aspects: 1. Just like other people have said, linear rails, beefy ball screws, and super rigid design, it's great 2. Combined this with a 1.5kW spindle, and it handles it like a charm 3. GRBL settings and calibrations were great, usually if you're making your own CNC, you've gotta configure a ton of settings, but the settings that the vasto is shipped with are on point. In fact they're too conservative, I noticed mine was set with a top speed of 1500mm/min, but you can run it much faster without missing any steps! 5000mm/min! 4. Super easy to assemble and incredibly smooth motion, cuts exceptionally well Bad things: 1. On a test cut, I noticed that my floor finish was strange, it would vary depending on where i had my workholding. I remembered that on youtube, someone had mentioned the bed would deflect with weight, and he highly recommended cross bracing for rigidity. I knew my workholding was solid, but I decided to test for myself, and he was right. From an economic perspective, it makes sense because for a $2k USD cnc mill, a good fixture plate that's 400x400mm is going to cost a minimum of $1000. At the price point, the bed that it comes with does a good job for wood or light things, but if you can afford it, remove the bed and upgrade to a quality metal fixture plate There's nothing else wrong with this machine that comes to mind, and the bed thing isn't even a big deal because i'm still getting great cuts. Very impressed with the Vasto! Shipped in 3 boxes, my first impressions upon opening them and seeing the majority of stuff pre-assembled, was very good. Seeing the linear rails, 16mm ballscrews, etc. Made me feel the quality of the machine is good. The Gantry has 10mm thick aluminum plates that bolt onto 10mm thick plates on the Y axis. Making for 20mm of aluminum mounting to the Y axis linear blocks. This machine was built very rigid! I'm able to cut aluminum easily with a 1/4" single-flute mill. I did put my own spindle on the machine, which allowed me to do 16mm deep cuts in aluminum given I respect the feedrate. It's pretty easy to do cuts in aluminum without chatter if you know your speeds/feeds. Very easy to come back around with a 0.2mm finish pass and get really really shiny cuts! I bought this machine for wood/plastic, not expecting it to do aluminum. Honestly after seeing the results, I'm looking forward to cutting more! I will say. Treat it as any CNC machine. Even if you buy a 20K CNC mill. The first thing you should do before running it, is alignments and tramming. Yes, the machine will cut freshly put together and can do the job. But if you're after precision cutting, I highly recommend aligning stuff. The bed, stock, does flex. I didn't find this to be a problem for "crafts" but did find it to be a problem for ripping deep and fast into hard materials. I dont really deem this a reason to mark-down my review, as you can work with it. I didn't personally notice any issues until I was trying to do 20mm cuts into HDPE at 1500mm/min. Overall. I'm very happy with this purchase. It's a very solid/rigid machine as illustrated with the results of my aluminum cutting. The cuts sounded great, coming from a 7-year seasoned aerospace machinist. This cnc is hands down the best desktop cnc I have used. I run a successful RC car parts manufacturing business with this machine. We cut carbon fiber and aluminum on it daily and have owned the machine for about 6 months. The machine has a ton of power and has no issues cutting anything I want.
