Description

The Clawhammer Banjo Primer Book for Beginners with Video & Audio Access by Brad Laird will teach you everything you need to know about playing clawhammer banjo. Clawhammer or "frailing" is an old-time Appalachian banjo style which predates the more common 3-finger Scruggs style. Experienced bluegrass players and beginners alike will enjoy learning the essential elements of playing the 5-string banjo in this interesting style. This course will teach you basic concepts like reading tab, the G tuning, basic strums, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and other essential techniques. • Great book for beginners or those coming back to the banjo
Format: Kindle
This book is highly well organized and presents many intelligent suggestions for a new banjo student. It’s far better than I had hoped for.

  • Great find downloadable video helpsA bunch
Format: Paperback
You can find videos on you tube but this simple sweet book and downloadable video sure helps a bunch- I just opened it and I could easily follow the first 10-12 exercises and feel like a song could happen super quick which is always encouraging ;) worth the money- I purchased a few others I would not recommend but super happy with this one ;) grateful ... show more

  • Different audio access than banjo primer
Format: Paperback
I purchased this book because I have the banjo primer book that I primarily used to learn 3 finger style. That book came with audio access as well, which came as Dropbox access to every song in the book, played at various speeds as individual tracks. Unfortunately, the audio access for this book is a web link with a 50 minute video that has all the songs from the book played back to back at various speeds. It still works, but is less convenient, and not what I was expecting. For me this book has been valuable in teaching clawhammer, but I have also been playing banjo for about a year now and am not completely new to the instrument. ... show more

  • Very good for a complete beginner
Format: Kindle
I ordered the kindle version. I also like the fact that I can download to the tracks to listen to. The tabs are also clearly written for the novice.

  • Great for beginners
Format: Kindle
I've worked through about half of this book, and I've improved greatly by just sticking with it and going slowly. The instructions are very clear, and the dvd is helpful when I get stuck. I had done some basic work with youtube videos, but I stalled after learning the basic clawhammer right-hand technique and a few chords. This book is helping me move beyond that in a more systematic way. I'd love to see Mr. Laird put together a follow-up book for upper-elementary to intermediate learners. ... show more

  • A little disappointed
Format: Paperback
I’m so new in learning the banjo. They have a few good things in here, however it’s kind of hard for me to follow. I shouldn’t have to find a video on YouTube to try to figure it out.
