  • Good read!
I enjoyed this book. It is a bit scary without being extremely gory which works for me. Also it is filled with my favorite kind of characters: somewhat flawed but likable and relatable. In addition, the plot has this kind of bitter sweet quality to it which really works with the story. So in my humble opinion, this book is definitely worth the read. ... show more

  • Loved it!
Well-written and enjoyable! What I liked: The overall plot. Very grabbing. What I didn’t like: That epilogue. Should have stopped reading before I got to it. Can’t people have a happy ending? (I took a half star off just for that…) What will stick with me: The way the story was composed. For a book about “hoodoo” and demons and ghost children, it wasn’t completely unbelievable to follow. ... show more

  • Awesome Book
I absolutely LOVED this book! I love paranormal books. My love in reading started when I was in middle school and I was reading Fear Street novels by R.L. Stine. Now this is nothing like R.L. Stine's Fear Street novels but it brought back the nostalgia in my love of reading. I wanted to savor every chapter and as I was sad for the ending I understood why the author had to end it that way. The storyline grasp my attention from start to finish and my interest never wavered. I would absolutely recommend this book to anybody that wants to try paranormal books for the first time or to your veteran lovers of paranormal books. I don't think you will be disappointed. ... show more

  • Outstanding ghost story
This has become one of my all time favorites books. The characters pulled me right in and made me feel like they were a part of my own crazy family. The relationship between Kylie and Kayla Macklin feels like an eternal sisterly bond we all long for in our lives. James Kaine is right at the top of my favorite author’s list with this unique tale of ghosts. Well done! ... show more

  • Spooky!
Perfect book to read around Halloween or if you're just in the mood for a spooky story! It's a great story, and nice quick read. I actually waited for it's release and ordered it as soon as it was released and I'm glad I did! If you love a good ghost story I highly recommend checking this one out!

  • An older reader's perspective
I found it slow to start and thought- OMG this book is for tweens. I toughed out the first couple of chapters and ended up finishing the book in two sittings. Definitely not just a book for tweens. I want to say thank you, to the author, for the Epilogue and your comments on research at the end of the novel. No loose ends and readers often wonder 'what happens next'. There were no plot holes and the story's continuity really holds true. I liked this novel a lot and look forward to reading more from the series, and the author. ... show more

  • This is a Teen Book, but not bad
Good plot and story, but I didn't know when I bought it that it was a teen book. Also, a happy ending would have been nice but that's just me.
