I have never had a yarn swift so cannot compare this one with others. What I can say is that this has made my life so much easier! It comes in a plastic case that is perfect for storage. It unfolds fairly easily although I did have an issue with the wingnut being stuck against another part when I first opened it up (I believe another reviewer had the same issue). It seems a bit flimsy being made of thin metal and plastic but it does what it is supposed to do. Instructions are easy to follow. Overall this is a great find and would make a great gift for someone that does yarn work. My Amazon rating system- Five stars-Great item. May have a minor flaw that does not detract from appearance or function. Four stars-Great item. Flaw or problem more noticeable. Or, price may be high for what it is. Three stars-Good item. Has a flaw/problem that requires more work than should be invested in a product. Two stars-May be a good item with work. Or, doesn’t work for me but may for someone else. One star-Nope. Doesn’t work for me and probably won’t for anyone else.

This yarn swift is easy to set up and use, but it does take a bit of coordination. Securing it to the table was great - there is padding to protect your surface. The umbrella part raises and lowers with a clip and it glides smoothly. Once I had my hank of yarn on the swift and set up on my winder, everything went smoothly. I have never used a yarn swift before this, and I was so happy with how easily and quickly I was able to wind up my hank. Why had I been avoiding this all my life before? But, it’s not perfect. There were 2 small issues I had: 1) There are 2 places where bare wire ends are exposed as it ties parts together. This shouldn’t impact the use of the swift because it’s in the middle, and the yarn sits outside. You shouldn’t have a reason to be reaching into the middle of the swift. 2) When putting the swift back into its case, I didn’t realize that the case was rectangular and not square. There is a particular way to fit everything back in the case. Again, not a huge issue, just double check things as you put them in. Overall, I’m glad I got this swift! It will be very useful for my projects.

Some people might prefer an all-wood swift because of the sort of feeling it gives, like if you're winding a skein of really high-end yarn. But if you're not made of money, and don't have someone to sit there with their arms stuck out forever, this will do the trick. It's not a buy-it-for-life level of sturdiness but depending on how often you use it (and I guess how carefully), it could serve for a lot of people.

This yarn swift is fairly easy to set up and take down for storage. What I didn't like is that the top of the clamp has no protection for the top of the table you might attach it to. I plan to use something between my table and this clamp. The swift itself spins very smoothly. I like how small it is to store vs my wooden table top swift which is bigger even broken down for storage. Overall, this is a handy tool.

O. M. G......how have I lived without a swift? I've got two winders but finally picked up this swift so I can go directly from hank to winder without having to drape yarn over chairs. This umbrella style was easy to clamp to my work desk and is so easy to extend. I was a little worried that it was metal, would my yarn get stuck? 10+ balls later I can say that I had zero issues with the swift. LOVE the plastic case it came in as this will make it super easy to store and of course, portable!!! This is a winner for the price.

This swift is made of thinner metal rods with plastic guards. It clipped nicely to my computer desk as well as the folding tables I use occasionally for my yarn crafting. It came with instructions in English and French to show how to securely clamp the holder onto the table. It also had instructions for how to wind yarn into a skein on the holder and how to put a skein onto the holder and then wind it off manually or with a "cake" winder. I haven't used it with an electric yarn cake winder but it worked well with my manual winder. This probably wouldn't hold up long to heavy daily use but for yarn hobbyists, it will be great!

This swift comes with a slim hard shell case for storage, it does not take up much space at all when not in use. Easy to set up, though when using it horizontally I did put something to support the bar as I used it like a spinning wheel to minimize wobbles
