  • Functional and Beautiful
Having initially been captivated by my Franklin Mint F-16 Pilot's Watch, which was my introduction to the world of solar-powered timepieces, I was immediately drawn to the exquisite craftsmanship and design of this particular watch. In fact, this elegant watch is one of three solar-powered, auto-setting watches I currently own, and, quite frankly, it's hands down the most aesthetically pleasing of the bunch. I was so impressed that, upon opening the box and taking it out, the watch started running immediately, demonstrating the reliability of its solar technology. The power meter has consistently remained in the medium/high to high range, indicating a robust and efficient power supply, even with varied levels of light exposure. While I usually prefer digital watches, the combination of analog and digital elements in this model really stood out to me. The dual digital screens provide a crisp, easy-to-read display, which is useful even in low light, and the illumination is good enough to see the time in total darkness. While the watch's backlight offers a good level of visibility, I found the orange tint to be a little more intense than I personally prefer. However, I must say that it's certainly not a deal-breaker, as it's noticeably easier on the eyes compared to a harsh, direct white light, which is a significant advantage, especially when trying to maintain good night vision while using the watch. Unfortunately, the alarm on this watch is simply not strong enough to reliably wake me, so I have found myself unable to utilize this particular feature, and I therefore leave it turned off. The daytime viewing experience is exceptional due to the watch's high-contrast display, which ensures outstanding readability in various lighting conditions. Moving beyond functionality, the meticulously crafted interior showcases a visually stunning design, featuring beautifully layered elements and a refined, attractive sheen that elevates its aesthetic appeal. Ultimately, this timepiece transcends mere utility; it's a captivating and functional piece of wearable artistry, a statement of both style and precision. The chronograph and countdown timer are nice added features, but I must admit that I don't find myself utilizing them frequently in my daily routine. While I appreciate the functionality, particularly the chronograph's ability to measure time with an impressive precision of down to 1/10th of a second, they aren't essential tools for me. The leather band exhibits excellent craftsmanship, although it does initially feel a bit stiff. I particularly appreciate the blue and gold color scheme, as it mirrors the iconic aesthetic of the US Navy and, in my personal view, is heavily influenced by the prestigious Blue Angels, which significantly contribute to my overall enjoyment of this watch. Although the original buckle was comfortable to wear, I found it less than ideal for my less-than-dexterous fingers. As a result, I opted to replace it with a high-quality, aftermarket stainless steel adjustable mesh bracelet, which offers a much more secure and user-friendly experience. The precision in the watch face is immediately striking; the hands align perfectly with the markers, demonstrating a clear commitment to detail. This level of mechanical accuracy, which I believe is a strong indicator of overall quality, is something I haven't always found in even the most expensive timepieces. I've often seen far more costly watches that, unfortunately, fall short of this meticulous attention to detail. Although gold, diamonds, and other flashy materials can certainly be eye-catching, I firmly believe that the true measure of a watch's quality resides in the accuracy and reliability of its movement. The Japanese movement within this particular watch is truly exceptional, setting a high standard that many other brands struggle to match. The flat, shiny sapphire crystal demonstrates remarkable hardness, showcasing its resistance to everyday wear and tear. Although there's some reflectivity, it hasn't presented any problems for my use. I've made sure to avoid exposing it to any challenging or abrasive environments, and I wholeheartedly agree that "rugged" is the perfect adjective to characterize its build quality. Furthermore, the bezel is in pristine condition; there are absolutely no visible chips, dents, or scratches, a testament to its durable construction. The bezel's rotation is both effortless and smooth, offering a satisfying tactile experience without being overly stiff or loose. Anti-Magnetic Resistance: This watch resists magnetic fields up to 4,800 A/m, protecting its accuracy from common household sources like refrigerator magnets and mobile phone speakers. This watch is incredibly convenient because it automatically synchronizes with the time signal at 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 AM, and you can also manually trigger a sync with a simple button press. The WWVB signal, originating from Fort Collins, Colorado, provides a consistent 60 KHz transmission 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensuring accurate timekeeping. I've found that it maintains its accuracy exceptionally well, consistently staying within the standard of +/- 15 seconds per month, and in my experience, it's even more precise, averaging only around +3 seconds per month with non-consistent synchronizations. Having owned comparable watches from other manufacturers, I can confidently say that this one delivers the most accurate timekeeping of the three. In fact, I own a Solar GPS watch that is always accurate and my other digital solar-powered watches also use the WWVB synchronization system. Due to my positive experiences, I now exclusively purchase solar-powered watches with automatic time-setting capabilities. The fit and finish of this watch are truly superb, and as a proud former member of the United States Navy, I deeply appreciate its overall aesthetic. From the carefully chosen color scheme to the undeniable ruggedness of the stainless steel construction, this timepiece perfectly captures the essence of quality and durability. While I am generally meticulous with my personal belongings, even after experiencing some unavoidable accidental bumps and minor scrapes, the watch remains remarkably flawless. I have been the proud owner of this Citizen watch since February of 2025, and throughout this entire period, it has consistently performed flawlessly, without any hiccups or malfunctions whatsoever. In fact, it has become such a cherished possession that I plan to eventually pass it down to my son-in-law as a symbol of enduring quality and a reminder of service. Initial setup is not a simple process. I highly recommend taking the time to read through the manual beforehand; this will guarantee a much more comfortable and efficient initial experience. Once you've completed the initial setup and become familiar with the controls, you'll find that the watch's various functions become quite intuitive with regular use. It's important to note, though, that due to the presence of fine details on both the watch face and the bezel, this particular model may not be the best choice for individuals who have any degree of vision impairment. I'm not a pilot, so I don't really need the Rotary Flight Computer Bezel. However, a pilot friend of mine saw the watch and had to try it out. He loved it so much that he bought one for himself. Accurate, precise, and functional, this stylish and handsome watch is rugged enough for everyday wear. It's always on time, with a power reserve that's consistently topped off. All in all, it's a fine addition to my collection. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up. ... show more

  • Looks even better live - Great finish quality
My daughter went into the Navy almost 3 years ago so you'd think that drove my purchase. Oh, no. I've been looking at this watch (actually a slightly different version the World Chronograph A-T the AT8020-03L Introduced in 2017) since it came out! Talk about a NON-impulse purchase! Something about the look, design really caught my eye plus the atomic and world time functions. I saw the Promaster version on a cruise last year (Last one before all cruising stopped as it turned out) and loved the way the 3, 6, & 9 were laid out plus the mini display at 4:00. But I just couldn't bring myself to spend the money on it even then at one of the port shops. Using a price tracker, I spotted a dip in price right near my birthday a week ago so I pounced. Glad I did! First thing, the case is like a mini Pelican case with the latch. Very nice. Second thing which I vaguely recall but forgot about was that, the minute I opened the case, it went into motion, setting itself to my time zone! So cool! How much easier could it be?? Watching the home time then the UTC hand spinning was great. Spot on. Only thing I needed to do was change the 2nd time zone to my daughter's base and to 24 hr which was very easy to do with online instructions. Impressions: The crispness of the watch can't be shown accurately in pictures. There are some really small numbers, letters that are so sharp and clear. The bezel finish is top notch. I am very impressed. The size is actually very manageable for my smaller wrists, feels smaller than its 46mm size and certainly smaller than a lot of the current monster watches out there. The blue used on the strap, the bezel and the face is a little darker than I expected, darker than the Blue Angels blue. This didn't bother me but just something I noticed. The strap is nice and thick leather which means, oh darn ;) I'll have to wear it a lot to break it in. Only very minor downside: to switch the mini display to date function means pulling the stem to the 1st position and changing it to calendar mode. I have a lot of G Shocks and the side buttons allow for very easy switching between functions. The Citizen doesn't. Oddly, the only thing that I've found so far that the 4:00 button does is check atomic radio reception. This seems a waste. I would think that could be used for changing, for example, the mini display from 2nd time zone to calendar quickly since that is probably used more often than its current purpose. When you consider that you can very easily switch between home time and 2nd time by pressing the 2 side button simultaneously (Which is really nice!), that they could build in more functionality with the 4:00 button. But that is nitpicking. Oh, and I doubt I'll ever learn to use the pilot's slide rule.... Overall, love the watch. Extremely easy to read, great lume, very comfortable and will definitely have a high spot in my wear rotation. ... show more

  • Sharpe looking watch for Blue Angels fans or current or ex-Navy
All around great timepiece from Citizen. A little different to setup, but still easy. The colors are great being a Blue Angels themed watch. The blue leather was unexpectedly darker, but the yellow stitching provided the contrast. All in all is is a great looking watch for the money. Being an eco-drive I dont have to worry about winding and it stays accurate even after a couple of days of non-use. ... show more

  • Excellent time piece!! Don't wait, buy it now!!
The media could not be loaded. What can you say about the Citizen Blue Angels edition ... beautiful time piece. Arrived on time and exactly as described. Well packaged, as a new watch should be. Easily initiated the manual sync with the atomic time signal coming out of Colorado, hasn't missed a beat since I got it. This is my second Blue Angels Citizen model. Loved the inner white bezel, which the others don't have. As a retired Naval SWO, the blue / yellow / white combination really speaks to me. Have a couple of other Blue Angel editions on the wish list, but as for this one, don't wait, buy, buy it now!! ... show more
