I have received and connected this pump, which was really quite simple. My question is on the back of the pump I received, it say auto, off, and service. In the manual it says hi, off, low. The switch on the pump has I O II. Now I know it's supposed to be a 2 speed pump, but how should place the switch for it to be on high or low? Rating 3 stars for now until I can get a better understanding on the instructions. ... show more

Instructions can be confusing but they shouldn’t be. The picture of the switch is different in the instruction and on the pump. The Amazon ad explains the correct functions so why ship this with instructions that don’t show accurate information. Down one star! Other than that, this seems to be a good pump. I can’t check it out yet because we already closed the pool. This gives me time to get it plumbed in and ready for spring. I will connect this next to my Hayward super pump. I have a single speed Hayward pump. I could get a variable speed pump but that is pretty expensive. I can run dual timers and let this pump run at reduced speed at night and the Hayward at full speed during the day. This pump does not have a feature that allows it to run for more than three hours at full speed. This pump is 120v which allows me to plug it into a standard 15amp outlet on an isolated line or a standard 20amp outlet. Since this does not run on high for long it will mostly run about 3.6amps. The filter cover is a screw on and it fits nice and tight. The pump also comes with two unions for easy connection. On low speed this will move about 2640gph. That is not enough for my pool if it were the only pump. As a night pump it is perfect. ... show more

Size: 1.5HP Dual Speed Pool Pump
This pump is very easy to set up and use. In limited use (I ordered the pump at the end of October, and I closed down the pool for winter shortly thereafter), the pump performed very well. There was good suction and flow, and it was much quieter than I expected (even quieter than the 1/3 hp Intex pump it replaced. Please note, if using with Intex, Coleman, or Bestway pools, you will need 40mm - 1/2" adapters, such as this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004TYBCEG/ . This is not a fault of the pump; Intex uses non-standard size tubing (Intex says they are 1.5", but they are actually 40mm, which is 1.57 inches). There are three things that I would like to see changed. One is that the manual incorrectly describes the pump settings. It states that the toggle switch can be flipped between low, off, and high. The switch is actually labeled "maintenance", "off", and "on". When set to "on", the pump will run on high speed for 5 minutes and then run on low speed; when set to "maintenance", it will run on high speed for 3 hours, ad then run on low speed. The second thing I would to see changed is to have a timer. I have a 5500 gallon pool, and only need to run the pump for about 5 hours while the chlorinator is running (the pump, running on low, can circulate the entire volume of the pool in about 2 hours). Without a timer, the pump runs continually. Lastly, the power cord should be at least twice the length (it's currently 6 foot). Personally, I'd prefer a 25 foot cord. If using with an above ground pool, there's a good chance that there is not an outlet within 6 feet of the pool. Overall, I'd recommend this pump. For the price (normally $79, but $48 at the time of this review), it is an absolute steal! Similarly priced pumps by the big name companies are 7 or 8 times the price. ... show more
