For outside mount, shade should be 4 - 6 wider than window frame, shade length should be at least 2 longer than the window length for better coverage.

I had seen similar shades in hotels that I had stayed in and they made the room very dark, so I just had to have them in my house. So, I ordered these blinds. I was looking for something that makes my bedroom pretty dark without sacrificing the ability to open the window or get a good view. I ordered based of their measuring instructions and they were a pretty good fit. I went with the inside mount over the outside mount with the understanding that there would be a gap on both sides. I purchased the tracks, separately, to help with the gaps. They do look nice and you can get them in a few different colors and they are easy to raise and lower so I can let light in during the day if I want. It also allows my to view my pond outback too. I still have light coming from the top, bottom and both sides. I will admit, that it is darker than the faux wood blinds that I had before, but not where I expected it to be, especially after putting a track on all sides of the blinds. My next option is to go with a heavier wrap around curtain to maybe catch some of the residual light that is getting in. This product is ok, but not as good as I had hoped, especially for the money. If you are looking for total darkness, you may have to use these shades in conjunction with some other items. ... show more

This shade fit perfectly and the easy to install hardware allowed for snug placement against the window. The chain has some weight to it (which I like) and is easy to pull. The product is reasonably well made. Blocks light fairly well. Pretty simple installation if you are handy at all. That’s what they are. What they are not is a high end - gonna-last-for-years kind of shade. My daughter wanted these and, with some luck, will be heading away to college in a few years. That’s about what I expect to get out of these. But with a discounted price of $35-40 a shade I don’t need more. Better than spending a grand on three shades and replacing them in a few years when I convert the room into my office. ... show more

I installed these to replace mini blinds we had in our master bathroom. Considering the high temperatures we have had lately, the blinds let in most of the heat from the sun beating on our bathroom window, and, even when closed, still a lot of light as well. These block almost all light (I used in-frame installation) and some of the heat as well, so the change was worth it. I think the price was reasonable, and once you figure out what the best way is to install the brackets for your situation, installation is easy, and the blinds snap right in with a spring loaded pin. I am planning to buy a narrow one to install on our backdoor that gets a lot of sun later in the day as well. It may not be the most stylish option as window covering, but it is functional and if you can live with that it's worth buying. I got this to replace some crappy old blinds in a rental property. Does a great job of blocking out the bright sun in the morning. There is significant light bleed on either side but that is to be expected to an extent. Installation is a little finicky to get right but fairly simple overall. I like the chain mechanism, I only wish there was something included to secure it as it likes to swing just a bit and make an annoying tapping sound against the wall. ... show more

Can’t beat it for the price. I accidentally purchased one too small for this window, but the blind itself is nice. Looks like it would tear easily so be careful. Been up almost a month and has slight freying on the sides

    • Replaced old style in garage, this is a great deal.
I had the old style where you pull down to have it spring back up. Well the spring wore out and it went down for the last time. I didn't like the idea that anyone could walk by and see in my garage so I was looking for something to block the window. Additionally having a blackout blind would help a small amount with keeping the heat out of the garage as part of the house is over it. For the price these things are great. Install was quick and easy. Just have to measure your window width, get to the nearest inch, and then takes a couple of mins to install. No big deal. ... show more

Like other say, it does stay in place and not unroll. The only issue i have is I can't get one bigger than 70" wide! Total black out, no faint light coming thru like some manufacturer's stuff. We'll see how it holds up over time, but so far, well worth the money. Only complaint is the chain. While I am OK with it being as short as it is, some may prefer longer. Also it is close to the edge of the screen, so there is that in the way, when you want to grab it - and the aluminum bottom rod which has to come past it too. The included plastic tie down is super heavy duty - should never break - but it's use is a bit dubious. It make the chain which hangs front to back, have to go thru left to right, so you have to twist the chain 90 degrees. Well, the chain is pretty stiff, so the bend radius is substantial - which means you have to space is off the edge of the screen, or else it rides over the screen. This makes the chain come off at an angle - which is not particularly attractive. Personally i ditched it and just let the chain hang - but i have no kids to worry about. ... show more
