Most child car seats have a 10 year lifetime. This Chicco base has only a 6 year lifetime There is a sticker on the bottom of the base which shows: DO NOT USE AFTER: (date MONTH/YEAR) Which is the date of manufacture plus 6 years. Six years is more than enough time for one child. But if you plan to use this base for multiple children separated by a few years, or plan to sell the base after your children have out grown it, you may be out of luck. Six years after the date of manufacture the base is worthless. These expiration dates seem arbitrary, and six years is not a long time. The seats and seatbelts in your car don't "expire" in 6 or 10 or 20 years..... ... show more

Very safe and very convenient - ONCE the base is properly installed. Very challenging to get it tight enough. The local fire department will check as to adequare instillation, and I can see why that is a very good idea; because it is exceptionally challenging to get it tight enough against the back seat. Fortunately, my son in law ( having had experience installing in his own car and getting fire department review) was able to get proper instillation. Pretty much creates a necessity of having a base for each vehicle to be used as moving it from one vehicle to another would be time consuming and not at all possible for grandmother or anyone with less mobility and or hand strength. ... show more

I've used worse car seat bases, but I haven't found a better one. Chicco has got it in the bag, baby. The levels are great for putting it in different cars. The quick-latch things work fine, as do the seat belt attachment points. Used it both ways. The orange helps you see the buttons and things that you need to press in dim lighting. This was so easy to install! It literally took seconds! Click, click, pull cord, squeeze leveler, done. I love that it has a level bubble on it, and just squeezing the orange button makes it level every time. If you need to remove it, just push the orange button on the cord, and click the red buttons on the buckles to release. All of the buttons are red or orange, so its super simple to know what to do. Works as designed, we have one installed in a 2002 Ford Explorer, and one installed in a 2012 Honda civic. This with a booster seat and a convertible seat, fit 3 across in my Honda Civic. Given this is narrow, it works great for my purposes.

We are first time parents and were looking for a simple, safe system. This easily fits the bill! I remember watching my parents struggle, sweat and swear over installing carseats on their vehicles, and with the Keyfit base, you'll never have to do that! Read the manual (obviously) to ensure you're installing correctly. It's easy to do, but required my full body weight to get it as tight as it needed to be.
