  • Great Read
Being a fan of all the true detective shows, I knew this story by Tameron Hall would be a killer (pun intended), and I was right. I read it straight through in one day. Jordan is an investigative reporter whose detective skills and determination solve the crime. She sleuths in four inch stilettos which is a feat in itself. Now I’m going to read the first book in the Jordan series. ... show more

  • 4.5 stars - Excellent crime novel
4.5 stars - Some people know Tamron Hall as a talk show host, but before that she was a national news anchor - and now she's a crime fiction author as well. Watch Where They Hide is the second book in the Jordan Manning series. Jordan Manning is a television journalist in Chicago who becomes totally invested in the crime stories she reports. While the first book was a suspenseful, thought-provoking thriller, this follow-up is an interesting procedural that includes a behind-the-scenes look into the world of broadcast journalism. Jordan is contacted by a woman who insists her sister is missing even though local law enforcement isn't taking her seriously. Even though not everything about the story adds up, Jordan won't give up until she finds out what really happened to Marla Hancock. Jordan Manning is an appealing main character. I like her intelligence and her determination as she fights for justice for those who need someone to stand up for them. Even as she experiences more success in her career, she still has to tiptoe around racial issues as a Black woman who wants to be taken seriously in her field but has to worry about offending others. Jordan is also afraid her personal life is taking a back seat to her career and wonders if she’ll ever be able to get married and balance that with her demanding job as an investigative reporter. In her quest to find out what happened to Marla, Jordan sometimes rushes in too quickly, potentially putting herself in danger. However, I admire her willingness to go all in for the people who turn to her for help. The story of Marla’s disappearance is engaging and seeing some of the things that go on behind the camera at a newsroom are fascinating. The ending isn’t necessarily happy, but it is satisfying and hopeful. Fans of Tamron’s first book, as well as author Hank Phillipi Ryan will enjoy this gripping story that I would rate 4.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, William Morrow, and Scene of the Crime Early Reads for this ebook. An advance copy was provided to me at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased. ... show more

  • Just ok
The story line was just ok. There wasn’t really a good plot twist. The beginning was a bit all over the place. A good quick read. I like the main cast.

  • Engrossing!
Emmy Award-winning TV Host and Journalist Tamron Hall returns following As the Wicked Watch with #2 in her popular Jordan Manning series with WATCH WHERE THEY HIDE —a crime investigative reporter follows a missing mother case while uncovering a complex multi-layered dangerous web of dark secrets and scandal in this gripping, twisty domestic suspense thriller. 2009, Marla Hancock, an Indiana mom, has been in an abusive marriage and has recently left her husband and moved in temporarily with her sister, Shelly. She drops off her eldest child at preschool and then disappears. She had a job interview and an appointment to see an apartment but did not attend either. Shelly Biltmore cannot even imagine why her sister would leave her children behind, and she is concerned. She thinks something suspicious is going on. However, the police department is understaffed with limited resources, so she feels like they will do little to help, as this matter is time-sensitive to find her sister after years of abuse, and she may be in danger. After filing a missing person's report, she reaches out to Jordan Manning, a Chicago crime reporter (News Channel 8 in Chicago), for assistance. She is desperate to make contact to help find her sister. Channel 8 News has just offered Jordan her own program, and the station switchboard is being bombarded with calls from viewers pleading to have their stories covered. After the James and Mosley cases, Jordan's career took off and gained recognition. She is a fixer with an edge, tenacious, and determined. As a young black professional, she still feels pressured to excel. Shelly believes her sister has been murdered, possibly by her estranged husband. When Shelly appears in Chicago begging for assistance, Jordan returns to Indiana to interview a list of Marla's friends and suspects. Jordan agrees to help find Marla and lands in the middle of a dark web scandal of sex—a complex manhunt with so many twists and turns in this complicated love triange that leads to murder with a cast of side characters to keep the pages turning. From the dark internet world, which can be used for all kinds of evil. From financially strapped concocting a gaming system to trading sex for money, drugs, deception, solicitation, abuse, affairs, and more. What happened to Marla? What goes on behind closed doors? WATCH WHERE THEY HIDE is a riveting, twisty crime thriller with a protagonist you will root for. Engrossing, captivating, and satisfying! I enjoyed the mix of business and personal and learning more about Jordan's character. While the first book was suspenseful, the sophomore novel is more of a complex, intense procedural crime thriller that infuses some behind-the-scenes into the world of broadcasting and racial issues surrounding a black woman—the balance between her busy, hectic work as an investigative reporter, and her personal life. WATCH WHERE THEY HIDE can be read as a standalone, but you will want to read the first book. I hope we see more books in the Jordan Manning series —can't wait to see what comes next! Tamron Hall is a successful crime writer and the incredible host of The Tamron Hall Show. The show continues to be one of television’s highest-rated daytime shows, consistently delivering standout moments that become central to the cultural conversation. Fans of Hank Phillippi Ryan and BA Paris will enjoy this one! #JDCMustReadBooks ... show more

  • Twisting mystery!
A twisting mystery revolving around the disappearance of Marla, a wife and mother. Did she leave her husband and children, or has she met with foul play? When her sister becomes frustrated with the police investigation and begins to suspect something terrible has happened to her sister, she frantically calls Jordan Manning, investigative reporter begging for her help. Jordan has become well known, since she aided in an investigation of a previous crime. She reluctantly agrees, and soon finds herself tangled in a web of darkness and deceit. Can she uncover the truth this time? She had doubts but persists. Tamron Hall has created a fascinating and unique mystery format told from the perspective of an investigative TV reporter. I have not read the first in the series, but this works well as a stand-alone. Jordan Manning is definitely a character I would enjoy following in a series, along with some of the other characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the book! The opinions of this review are my own. ... show more
