Designed for residential use, Chapin’s 81008A 80-pound residential salt/ice melt spreader has a weather-resistant poly hopper to fill with your preferred ice melt, halite or small particulates. Supported on a powder-coated steel frame with the ergonomically designed bail system and U-shaped flip up handle, it’s simple to operate and holds up season-after-season. The baffles adjust for edge control and the pneumatic tires handle uneven ground. This unit is not recommended for rock salt, sand or sand mixes. A spiked auger helps tear up clumps and keeps the ice melt moving freely. Made in the USA with global materials and backed by Chapin’s 2-year limited warranty.

Works well. Assembly and installation of the handle was not a problem contrary to other opinions. The price was ok but seems like the quality could be a little better. Size is great for my larger residential driveway. Works best with the calcium chloride.

This product came with a 2 year warranty written on the box. After 13 months the spring assembly that shut the spreader gate rusted and broke. I called the company and the said the 2 year warranty only applies to the plastic container that holds the material to be spread. Everything else had a one year warranty. I had to mine replacement part that probably cost $2 to make and was charged $40 for it. Actually they double charged me and I had to complain, they never called me back so I took it up with the credit card company. Warranty was reneged on in my opinion and their customer service is horrible. Product is expensive and these effects should not happen. Versatile construction and easy to assemble if you have a decent eye for assembling things. The directions are as good as asking a dog for the best way to clean your shoes. You get absolutely nothing out of them. Other then that, the real rubber tires are great for getting through snow without the wheels gliding. Hold plenty of salt for sidewalks and paths and is easy enough to push when full. All around a solid product with the price. You can obviously get much better but you will pay accordingly, this I see as a healthy compromise ... show more

My husband love his new salt spreader. We had been using a seed spreader for years thinking that it was just fine, but after using this one this winter, we would never go back. So many features make this tool perfect and easier to use with salt. A great purchase, super sturdy and so convenient!

Difficult to control the distribution of the salt. It goes from way too much to nothing. I mistakenly ordered 3 only needed 1. I called immediately to cancel 2 items within 5 minutes of the order. I was told it couldn't be canceled. I went on line and couldn't cancel. The order showed up 2 weeks after the promised date. After returning the 2 items I had to file a complaint with Amazon because I hadn't received my refund. I DO NOT recommend this seller at all.
