  • Heavy Duty Homeowner Spreader / Assembly and calibrating is required
This is a seriously heavy-duty fertilizer spreader for homeowners and light commercial contractors. It's built well and should last for a long time. I was considering the Earthway Even Spread 2150 but chose the Chapin 82050C because of the larger hopper capacity, and not to mention saving over $150. Be aware that assembly is required! The listing notes in the description that "No assembly or calibrating required". This is false, the spreader does require assembly from the wheels to the handles and does require calibration. The other issues I had was that I was missing parts when my spreader arrived. I contacted Chapin and they sent out the missing parts, although I had to wait another week to assemble my spreader. The hopper was missing the Chapin sticker/logo, as you can see from the picture. Chapin did not send me one to apply, I guess they don't want to promote their spreaders. The spreader is exactly what I was looking for. The pneumatic tires are large and the spreader rides smooth, much nicer than any cheap spreader you will find at any home center or farm supply. If you are looking to upgrade or buy a spreader that will last, you will not be disappointed with buying this spreader. ... show more

  • Not worth the $$$$$$
Poor build quality. hardware falls out leaving you to spill massive amounts of fertilizer, wasting money and killing the grass. Flimsy handles. Not like the ones from 10 years ago.

  • Requires assembly
Quality product, requires assembly, all nuts and bolts are metric.. 3/11/18..amazon thanked me for my observations, yet description "no assembly required" still indicated..

  • DURABLE AND WORTH THE MONEY
This spreader is 100% better than those from Lowe’s or Home Depot. It is very durable and easy to use. The instructions on how to build is very simple. Make sure to READ before attempting to put it together. Patience is key on building this. I highly recommend this to anyone that applies fertilizer and winter seed on their lawns. ... show more

  • Throwing away this spreader. Warranty is useless. Gearbox is garbage.
I am in my second year of using this spreader. In the first year, the tire went flat. Was sent a new one by Chapin. This year the gear box is shot, making the spreader useless. I called warranty to see about sending me a new gearbox, they refused saying the warranty only cover parts in the 1st year. The 5 year warranty is for manufacturer defect?? Odd description of a warranty. I live in Michigan, only use the spreader during the summer months and the gearbox is already seized up? The parts department wanted $50 plus shipping to send me a new gearbox. No thanks. This spreader is going in the trash. ... show more

  • Poor distribution of spreading material
Dont be fooled, this is not a contractor grade spreader. 1. The shutoff levers to reduce the size of the pattern left or right are not effective. I closed the left lever to prevent material from spreading around flower beds. I couldn’t tell any difference in the amount of produce being spread when the lever was fully open. 2. The rear legs are too long so you need to hold the back of the spreader up so the legs don't drag in your grass. This angle causes the spreading material to collect in the front of the hopper but you run out of material in the back where the distribution slots are located 3. The spreader gate control works well to shutoff material flow however I expected a better scale with preset stops. I guess you could say the unlimited adjustable stop gives more control however i like preset stops so as you change material you don't have to recalibrate the spreader every time. I am keeping the spreader but i am not pleased with my purchase. Its not worth the price i paid. ... show more

  • eh, not what I was expecting
Like all spreaders, assembly required. Fairly simple to assemble but EVERY bolt head had slight variations in diameter, whether it was supposed to be 8mm or 10mm, they were all different so I had to constantly switch to different wrenches and or ratchets. Once assembled it's solid and feels good. Now, onto the use. The yellow hole block/slides underneath the tub are supposed to allow you to cast to the right or left, depending on your needs as in making trim passes. These things are poorly designed and don't block much of anything. I used this spreader to put down pre emergent at 4 clients yards and quickly determined the the only way to use it was to close both yellow flaps and slowly do trim passes. The black plastic screen is very nice but should be made to drop down deep inside the tub instead of resting near the top. This is again, in my opinion, a poor design. Bottom line - It's a budget spreader that performs like one. I would not buy it again. I was hopeful but utterly disappointed. I have used my friend's $500.00 Lesco and see why they fetch a high price. I'll relegate this Chapin to the spare/back up pile and save my money for a Lesco. ... show more

  • Value based commercial spreader
Amazon had the best price for this spreader so I bought it. I had the earlier model of this spreader that I got in early 2000, and the frame finally rusted out. This recent model seemed to feel less bulky than the one it replaced. This is a good brand of spreaders that I use at least 12 times a year for fertilization, on yards that range from small to half an acre. ... show more
