  • Good book, somewhat short, and a few other notes...
I bought this having already watched the anime in it's entirety as I wanted to see what bits and pieces made it in / what didn't, and any visual differences for fun. If you've already watched the anime, the first volume here is virtually identical sans a few minor styling choices and seems to cover episodes 1-3 (well, up to 3/4s of the third episode). There's only 1 particularly noteworthy scene very early on that wasn't included in the anime, and the anime has a few scene extensions vs what's shown in-book. It's definitely worth it on the basis that it's like a whopping $6-7 as of writing alone if you really like the show and want to have it for the sake of having it. That being said however even if you're buying it blind, seriously consider buying the other volumes along with it. It's ~190?-ish pages and you can definitely blast through it in one sitting. ... show more

  • A young man on a quest…for boobs
I bought this for my kid one Sunday Funday because she loves manga and had her eye on it for a while. I finally got around to reading it myself. I sent her a picture of the title page for Chapter 5: A Way to Touch Some Boobs because I thought it was pretty funny. She said that’s pretty much the story. Guy who spawns chainsaws from his limbs hunts demons in his quest to touch some boobs. Will he ever get to touch some boobs? Only time will tell. ... show more

  • Interesting start
This was definitely a different seres to start. The background of the character is given pretty quickly, but then a little more is added here and there throughout the volume. We’re introduced to characters in the same way of not getting much info about them, but getting teases of what sound like some intense stories. Plenty of violence and gore in this, but it doesn’t have it just for the sake of shock value or pushing the envelope. I am interested to see where the story goes from here. Power may be my favorite character at this point, beating out our hero by just a tiny bit. ... show more

  • Delightfully weird and unexpectedly horny
After finishing Attack on Titan, my brother insisted I check this manga called “Chainsaw Man.” Not knowing what it was about, I made 3 fun guesses about the story after recently rewatching a Edward Scissorhands. 1. It was about a man with chainsaws for hands. 2. It follows a guy who is actually a chainsaw. 3. It follows a guy Dexter-style who kills people with chainsaws. My bro laughed saying all three guesses were kind of right. When I finally Googled Chainsaw Man, I too laughed. I didn’t realize my - what at the time sounded like silly guesses - would amount to reality. That was all I needed to know to start reading this manga. So far, it’s lived up to the hype. I wasn’t expecting the addition of a little lovable chainsaw pup to make me emotionally invested by the end of Chapter 1. Don’t be surprised if you get caught up in some feels. Otherwise, one thing about CSM (is that a good acronym for Chainsaw Man?) caught me off guard. I wasn’t expecting the main character to be obsessed with trying to touch some boobs. Not sure if that’ll continue to be a thing moving forward, but feel like it’s worth mentioning bc it’s a recurring theme in vol. one. Looking forward to reading more. ... show more

  • A Beautiful Star
LOVED THE ANIME! I wanted to try the books because people said they were good and I just started it and already love it! It came fast and in good condition in English. Pochita is so adorable. Kick Back has to be one of my favorite intro songs.

  • Worth it.
Looking at the entire story arc (volumes 1 to 11)… It’s a story arc. Sure, bits get left dangling at the end, but it actually goes places. Padded gloves? A world built of happy endings? as if - check the genre if you don’t believe me. That said, every shadow needs a light allow it to exist and a shape to give it form - This tale knows what it’s doing. The story goes places. Places to make you think. Things worth thinking on. The kinds of things that too many stories omit or forget about completely, but are essential to stories. Totally worth the read. ... show more
