For single farm gates, I prefer a different latch (one that self closes and locks). For double gates, this is very convenient and sturdy. Make sure that you measure your gate piping for the correct sizing of the latch before ordering. I have a very bad dog, for whom we need sturdy enclosures. My farm gates have fence wire on them so that there can be no escape from the rail spacing. However, we need convenient in/egress, and this gate latch allows for that. Moreover, if you are using this gate on other parts of your property that are less visible, you can use a lock with this gate. We had one last gate for which we had a chain. and it was a pain in the patookas to unfasten. For several years we have said, we need to get another latch! We did. We're glad. I was able to get a warehouse deal, and I was happy to get some additional savings...but even at regular price it is a nice value.

This is a really heavy duty latch. It was too big for what I intended to use it for, but I used it for my garden gate instead.

Ultra heavy duty. Item is bigger and heavier than I imagined. Installation: lacked instructions but was pretty straight forward. Be aware you will have to drill a hole though each post for very much needed supporting bolt, although the act of center drilling the posts was easier then I was expecting. A heads up warning about security of the device: If you want it to be secure you will need to weld the one nut to the screw holding the swing arm as with out doing so a person may elect to simply detach the arm allowing the gate to be opened without being concerned with an attached padlock. the question I imagine people asking would be why did they do this and my best guess is being able to detach the arm make it easier to install. cures the problem with the grates being a inch to far apart for a regular latch. worth the buy

Durable, sturdy and well built but not wrong size

Easy to install, easy to use. Keeps the wind from blowing the gates around much better than previous latches. I tried 1 for a few months then ordered 2 more for the rest of my gates. We did end up grinding part of it so we could open the gate both directions, the actual gate was less than a 1/4" too close. Highly recommend but make sure your gates are far enough apart to allow for the latch.
