  • Celestron 8x42 Trailseekers - Great value for the price
Style: TrailSeeker 8x42 BaK-4 Prism
I did a lot of shopping before I decided on these porro prism trailseeker bins. They have great reviews on the web and when they showed up in my mailbox and I had a chance to use them, I was very pleased. Fogproof, waterproof, lightweight, with a magnesium body and quality optics, they exceeded my expectations. I like the wide 426 ft field of view, close 6.5 ft focus, and bright, clear image. Plus they come with a quality carry bag with wide neck strap, a wide neck strap for the binoculars, and even a chest harness. They are a great value for the price. Nice to have in my pack. ... show more

  • Amazing value, incredible clarity, perfect for birding.
Style: TrailSeeker 8x42 BaK-4 Prism
The first time I went out birding with these , the phrase "game changer" kept popping up in my head. I'm amazed that I was able to get such a great pair of binoculars for under $200. The clarity is fantastic. The field of view is great. Using my old binoculars, it was difficult to track birds in flight. With the Trailseeker 8x42, I can do it with ease. I really enjoy being able to look closely at the details of birds. I was thinking about getting the 10x42 (my old binoculars were 10x). I decided to trust online sources that said that 8x were better for birding, and I don't regret it. I haven't found much of a difference in the 8x vs. 10x. Perhaps the quality and clarity of the Trailseekers make up for it, but I feel like I can see more details of the birds I'm looking at. It also makes it so much easier to track warblers hopping from branch to branch. I also wanted to mention the brightness. I was skeptical about how much of a difference the lens coatings would make. I went out on a cloudy day, and was pleasantly surprised when I looked through the lenses. It seems the Trailseekers allows more light in, so that the image you're looking at is actually brighter than your eyes see. Bottom line, I feel like I'm using binoculars that I would have had to pay $400+ for. These are fantastic. ... show more

  • Excellent buy
Style: TrailSeeker 8x42 BaK-4 Prism
Bird watching has become a new hobby/interest of mine. Admittedly I am novice at this but wanted a decent set of binoculars. I reviewed recommendations from Audubon. This binocular was one of the lower cost recommendations. Thus far I am really impressed with the overall quality of the optics and controls. The accessories that come with the binoculars include neck strap, harness, case, cleaning cloth. The only comparison I can make is against an old pair of pocket sized Nikons 7x20. These were always a challenge to use and locate your target. The image with the Nikon binoculars always seemed dark. The new Celestron 8X42 make finding the target so much quicker, the image is amazingly clear, and not dark like the old Nikon. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Top Midtier Performance at Entry Level Price
Style: TrailSeeker 8x42 BaK-4 Prism
I own the Vortex Diamondback HD 12x50 as well as a GPO Passion 10x42ED and can safely say the Celestron Trailseeker 8x42 performs as well optically, give and take, with some advantages even. FOV is superior to any I have tried. Glass in the Trailseeker are bright and sharp edge to edge with minimal chromatic aberration. I realize the difference in magnification makes them difficult to compare. There is little to fault; If I am nit picking, I think the focus wheel is a little too loose for my taste. Frame is magnesium similar to the other midtierers and even the eye piece is made from metal. I got mine under $200 which I think is an amazing value. I love these binoculars as I think they are the right size and perfect for general spotting. ... show more

  • Very good quality

  • Best binoculars we've bought
Style: TrailSeeker 8x42 BaK-4 Prism
Third time's a charm. This is the third set of binoculars we've gotten, and we finally hit the jackpot. The image quality and magnification are fabulous. I can tell right away if it's a cedar wax wing or an evening grosbeak from a distance, and enjoy them as though they were a foot away up close. For the price, I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I read all the reviews. In a lot of the lists these binoculars were at the top of the midrange pricelists- so just below the last entry in the most expensive category. And I suspect, probably very similar. Definitely recommend. ... show more

  • Excellent - an outstanding value!
Style: TrailSeeker 8x42 BaK-4 Prism
I own four pair of binoculars - each for different purposes. I am very particular in the choosing and, of course, the proper deployment of each instrument for its purpose. With optics, you are dealing with trade-offs. Want light weight? Be prepared to give up high magnifications and wider fields of view. Want a wide field of view? you'll need to compromise on magnification. Want super powerful magnification? Get ready for some significant weight to tote around, For these reasons, althoughI am a big fan of reading and comparing numbers on the web, in order to properly purchase the right binocular you have to hold them in your hands, look through them, judge weight and eye relief along with focus speed and other factors And it helps to have an idea about what you want to bring closer and the conditions you will be doing that in. At some point, the investment in both the optics and the activities they accompany become worth the effort. These Celestron binoculars certainly fit the bill as to weight (23 oz), super wide field of view, and relative sharpness as compared to their more expensive brethren. I like the dark green color and I like the relatively long eye-relief (17mm), as well. For a 42mm objective (the larger, outer lens) they are fairly portable, feel good in the hand, and provide a clear sharp image. Taking the price and warranty into the equation delivers an outstanding value. Keepers! ... show more

  • Great for casual birding
Style: TrailSeeker 8x42 BaK-4 Prism
I am very pleased with this purchase. The clarity, field of view, and range of view are all very excellent. The weight is not terrible and the protectors are durable rubber. Would absolutely recommend for the casual birder who is getting more serious about the hobby.
