Description

Celestron’s StarSense Explorer 130AZ is the first telescope that uses your smartphone to analyze the night sky and calculate its position in real time, making stargazing easier than ever. Perfect for beginners, this app-enabled telescope lets you dock your phone, launch the app, and follow on-screen arrows to planets, stars, galaxies, and more. Unlike other astronomy apps that rely solely on gyroscopes, StarSense uses patented sky recognition technology and a Lost in Space Algorithm (LISA)—like the sophisticated location systems used by satellites—to deliver accurate, real-time guidance. Simply align your phone with the telescope optics, and within minutes, you’ll be exploring with confidence. The app automatically generates a list of the best objects to view based on your exact time and location. Choose one and navigate there by following the on-screen arrows. When the bullseye turns green, your target is ready in the eyepiece. The high-quality 130mm Newtonian reflector with highly reflective coatings provides bright, detailed views of the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, and deep-sky favorites like the Orion Nebula and Andromeda Galaxy. The tabletop base is compact, lightweight, and easy to transport, making it perfect for travel. The base’s low profile makes accessing the eyepiece easier for some observers (especially children). Includes two eyepieces (10mm and 25mm), a red dot finderscope, and a StarSense smartphone dock. Compatible with iPhone 6 and up and most Android phones from 2016 or later running Android 7.1.2 or newer.

Size: StarSense Explorer 150mm
Awesome first telescope, even with cloudy skies we could find some star clusters with starsense. If you can score the 150mm for under 500 grab it! Recommend getting the svbony zoom eye piece if your a newbie and maybe a 32mm finder eyepiece. It's light enough to pick up and move around fairly easily but heavy enough to be stable very stable. Assembly isn't that difficult if you're competent. If you can't figure out how to assemble it there's very little hope for you figuring out how to get starsense working and actually find objects ha. Just make sure to remove the brackets that come attached to the scope and attatch them to the mount before locking the scope on to them. Also remember to remove the mirror cover on the starsense mount and get a cheap laser collimator. ... show more

  • Great product
Size: StarSense Explorer 150mm
I got this telescope as an upgrade to my simpler telescope from the same brand, and I was impressed by its quality. I feel it is quite easy to use. (The app and the computer program are also pretty awesome, and they make everything much easier to see and to make sense of!) The assembly part was fairly easy, but the instruction manual is not very helpful. That would be my one criticism of the product. It is very sturdy, and the base sets easily on a table or the ground. It is stable, and the view angle is adequate and easy to adjust. The lens that came with it and we got some great viewings of the moon and planets. This item was not cheap but I feel it delivers great quality for the money. ... show more

  • Learn to collimate!
Size: StarSense Explorer 114mm
Absolutely amazing! Perfect for a beginner. It comes collimated . Learn what that means before you buy one of these. To me, it’s not hard, but you might not want to do the process. Seen Jupiter and its moons. Saturn can’t be seen yet for me. Location thing not product.

  • Highly recommend, easy and fun!
Size: StarSense Explorer 130mm
I bought this after doing as much research as possible and for beginners, this telescope was recommended the most over endless YouTube videos. I was thrilled to have finally have a clear night to take it out and I’m so pleased on my first moon images! They are so clear! The star sense app is easy enough to use but a little tricky getting it aligned. I have to bring it out during the day again today to get it aligned a little better and adjusted to where I can sit vs standing and hunching over it. I would highly recommend this telescope. I just bought a Barlow lens adapter and a moon filter lens cause it was blinding. Will update after I get to use those. ... show more

  • Excellent telescope
Size: StarSense Explorer 150mm
Fantastic tabletop telescope. Optics are very clear and the lenses were collated right out of the box. Set up was not difficult and all the instructions, tools and parts were included and easy to follow. It is a bit on the heavier side but not to the point it can’t be moved from spot to spot. Setting up you mobile device to use with the Starsense app and telescope was simple and the Starsense app makes night sky viewing easy, fun and educational. I am very happy with this telescope and think it is one of the better telescopes at this price point. ... show more

  • Good telescope for beginners using an iPhone X
Size: StarSense Explorer 114mm
Very easy to assemble and use. Well made and good optically. The StarSense Explorer app is a joy to use, even for beginners. Craters on the Moon, rings of Saturn, moons of Jupiter, double stars, currently visible comets, and even some deep sky objects can be seen thanks to this app. But I'm not giving the scope 5 stars because the app doesn't work with two different recent Android phones I tried. Celestron's tech support was unable to help with this. I bought a used iPhone X for it and it works great. The two eyepieces that come with it are adequate, but the Celestron zoom eyepiece (available separately) gives greater flexibility in magnification. ... show more

  • Get from Celestron. At least they don't sell used things as new.
Size: StarSense Explorer 114mm
So this came with missing parts, covered in dust and dog hair, but it's new right Amazon. Wow another "new" object with wear and tear. Everything is backwards also. I put together the stand but everything else came assembled and I just now found out it's backwards. The cellphone holder is upside down. And the eye piece is so close to it u can barely get ur head in to see it. And it's more proof it was previously owned because Celestron wouldn't assemble a telescope backwards. U can see in the pic that everything is screwed up. The only thing I did wrong putting the one board on backwards. U can see in the photo. ... show more

  • Nice size for a 150mm desktop DOB
Size: StarSense Explorer 150mm
The setup takes a few hours to assemble right out of the box. The instructions could have been better. They need a good set of orientation pictures at better angles. The only trouble I had with the assembly was that the holes that were predrilled were drilled too short. An easy fix to this problem was with a hand drill. I took the 150mm Celestron out for a test after assembly and found that it worked as expected. The lenses were just ok! And, I will be buying Possel lenses with better eye relief. The moons of Jupiter came in as clear points of light even with the packaged 10mm & 25mm lenses. The focus wheel was a little stiff, but a drop oil helped. The DOB frame and base are solid and are easy to handle. But, the 150mm DOB table top is a little heavy. So, if you are thinking about the weight being a problem, then the 114mm desktop DOB might be a better choice. The DOB was on sale at the time I ordered it, and at a discounted price. So for the price I paid it was great. ... show more
