  • So Far, So Good!
My child just started band class at school, and the Baritone horn was the instrument he chose out of all of them. I about choked when I saw the average prices for this horn at the usual internet sources. I was almost to the point of telling him that he had to choose another instrument, when I discovered several better priced options here on Amazon, which is rapidly becoming my favorite place for most purchases. I found a really good article by a professional musician about how to choose a Baritone horn, and after reading the article and comparing about 1/2 dozen lower priced Baritones, this seemed to be the better horn. The stainless steel valves, larger bore, and overall full-sized dimensions of this Baritone won me over. There are numerous other Baritones out there with a significantly smaller bore, and overall smaller dimensions, which produce a lesser quality sound. We received the Baritone today, and I have to say that I'm rather impressed. The horn itself seems flawless -- all the valves and slides work well. I would give the case 4/5 stars because I suspect it will not prove very durable over time, but I it is a good case and provides nice protection for horn. It is listed as a "hardshell" case, but it's actually not -- it is nylon canvas over a styrofoam frame. Again, not a bad case, but I predict I'll be replacing it in a year or two. I'm a former woodwind player, so I am not exactly an expert on brass instruments, but I can still get a nice sound/tone out of this Baritone. Even my son gets a decent sound out of it already. Overall, I have to say that this is an excellent choice for Baritone horn for a beginning band student. For the price you are getting very good to excellent quality/craftsmanship, and you're not spending a $1,000-2,000 on a horn for a beginning band student. ... show more

  • Good for practice only
This Baritone horn is more like an alto horn. The low notes are impossible to play properly, they are out of tune. Thankfully my son is able to use the school's horn while he is at school, so we just leave this one at home and he uses it for practice. It was a great deal for the price though considering the cost of a more decent one. It has served it's purpose through a full first year of band for my child. ... show more

  • You get what you pay for
At first I thought this was a good baritone at a great price. Unfortunately, it isn't able to make some of the notes clearly. My son's music instructor offered to let us use her horn instead for no cost for the year as this one is impossible to play correctly.

  • Great Instrument
I ordered this baritone for my son who is beginning this in 5th grade. If I were to rent it from a store, I would end up paying $1800 at the end. Since I wasn't sure if he would stick with it - I decided to go this route. Glad I did. Great sound for a beginner.

  • Great find!
My daughter uses it everyday in band. It's perfect especially for the price. I couldn't even find a used one for this price at any music store. It's a little smaller than the ones at the music store but it's ideal for my 12 yr old. Love it! And didn't break the bank!
