This valve block is a fantastic way to practice fingerings. Lots of times your chops give out long before your fingers memorize the passage, especially when the passage is in the upper register. You can sit in your easy chair and shed away. The valves have very realistic travel and resistance - so you are really getting a realistic practice session. I love this device! The moment I used it, I felt its usefulness. It just feels good every time. When I switch to my trumpet, it just feels natural. I can take it wherever I go and use it just about everywhere. I highly recommend it to everyone, beginner or professional.

Got this for the boyfriend who plays trumpet and keeps me up all hours tooting his horn. Kinda sounds like most boyfriends. This has very little noise and he can practice till the morning and I can sleep when I want. Love it!

This is a really cool device for practicing fingerings, buzzing practice and ear training. For $20, you get a tool that closely imitates the action of a real trumpet. Kudos to its inventor! Like a previous reviewer, I took off one star because the springs are so stiff. I wish I could just take off 1/4 of a star, because this thing is overall pretty awesome. I had pre-ordered a set of Yamaha springs, changed them out first thing and have been playing with my new toy all evening! It was easy to change the springs. All the parts unscrew just like a real trumpet. In a master class a few years ago, I saw Arturo Sanduval demonstrate a very similar practice tool he had made for himself by throwing together parts from a real trumpet (or more likely cutting one up). Like the PAMPET, it could easily fit in to a brief case or carry-on bag. He said he uses it to practice on long plane flights. (That was before TSA got crazy, though!) I don't often write reviews, but this thing actually works and will be useful to my students (and me). I am happy to help spread the word. ... show more

    • Exactly what I need for demonstrations and student practice
Purchased for demonstrating hand placement and fingerings for brass instruments. I like it because I can leave it out in the classroom and no longer need to leave an expensive instrument out.
