My wrists have issues so I thought a yarn winder might be helpful. And it is. It rolls a nice yarn cake that works perfectly with my yarn holder for knitting. My experience is that you need to select a slower speed when winding. Any sort of disruption of yarn tension can cause the yarn to bounce and interrupt the process, causing you to stop the machine and sirt it out. Different yarns have behaved differently at various speeds. I may invest in a swift and see if winding into a cake from that helps with the tension. Assembly only takes about a minute or two. You will want to have a counter or table you can attach it to. The speed adjustment is variable and can be adjusted how you want. No preset speeds. I have only wound about 6 skeins so far since I wind yarn as I use it. But it is has worked very well and I am positive I won't run into knots, twists, loose ends, and twisted yarn as I go. It isn't necessary, but it sure is nice to have. My fingers and wrists are thanking me.

It's not of spectacular quality, but it gets the job done and makes cute cakes! It's quiet, easy to use and assemble, and has an adjustable speed knob. When winding, if the yarn gets stuck, the machine will try three times before turning off. The only issue I have with that is that when it turns off, I have to unplug it and plug it back in in order to get it to start again. It's only slightly inconvenient, though, so I still give this 4 stars.

This yarn winder works so well!! It was so simple to put together and get started, and it makes the tension in the balls perfect all the way around, instead of, if you manually spin yarn, some areas being too loose/tight. The only thing you have to be careful with, is if you have it going at a higher speed, and the yarn gets tangled or too tight, it won't go through and it will cause the yarn winder to stop and it make weird noises like it's trying to get through the issue but its poor little motor can't make it lol, so just make sure you have plenty of yarn to go through at higher speeds.

I’ve run several different weights through it, including some textured handspun, and it handled everything without complaints. The auto-stop feature is a great touch; if the yarn snags or tangles, it pauses instead of chewing up the ball or stressing the motor. The capacity tops out around 7 oz, which is actually perfect for portable projects. It’s compact, stores easily, and saves a lot of hand fatigue. The media could not be loaded. Electric yarn winder for hassle-free yarn winding. This winder was very easy to set up and be running with it. The instructions are clearly illustrated and easy to follow even if you've never used a yarn winder of any kind. I used it with a yarn umbrella and it worked flawlessly. Wound the yarn with just enough tension to make a nice ball, without stretching it at all. You select the speed with a simple turn of a dial. It's very quiet to operate, wound several 400 yard balls without any difficulty, and would have been able to make bigger balls if needed, up to 7 ounces. When it's finished, you have a nice firm ball with the inner end of the yarn visible! It has a great function that stops if it encounters a snag or tangle in the yarn after a few attempts, so it doesn't burn up the motor or break the yarn. You just untangle the yarn and start it back up again. I appreciate that feature. I tried several weights of yarn with this winder, including DK, sock weight, worsted and bulky. It also handled my handspun yarn without any problem, with little nubs in it. When not in use, it stores easily on a shelf and takes up very little space. Very easy to pull it out and set it up anytime you need to use it. Very well priced for a smooth working electric winder.

I'm a crocheter and have a ton of yarn that requires winding when organizing them. I already own one that's hand cranked, but this one was electric, so I jumped at the chance to try it out. The following is the pros and cons list which was constructed from my experience with the product. Pros: 1) I love that I don't have to hand crank it. It works very well. Once you thread the machine, it will go all by itself. 2) It's pretty quiet. My old one makes a racket. 3) It works with various size yarn. 4) You do have to put it together right out of the box, but it's very ways (2 steps) and operation is a breeze. 5) It comes with a pretty long power cord. 6) It's competitively priced. Cons: 1) If there is a slight pull from the yarn source, it will stop. 2) It can only make small to medium size yarn balls. Overall, it's a pretty nice addition to my crocheting yarn tools. I'm not entire sure if it's a necessity though.
