UPDATE ***** So here is my honest opinion about this CAYDO electric yarn winder. As a knitter and crocheter I bought this machine in January 2025, with all my hopes thinking that all the commercials on the media and money price would make a fun and helpful tool to have . I have tried to use it plenty of times to get a real and truthful opinion on this Caydo model # X-1011, color blue. The machine comes on a sturdy cardboard box, and the machine is well wrapped. Inside you can find the machine with a small instruction booklet that has a scan code and will take you to a video on how to put the machine together, making this very helpful. It also comes with small screws and a small screwdriver as tools that helps you to successfully put it together. It comes with a cable but not a plug. Once you put it together, it’s sturdy and it gives you the impression that with care, it will work in an excellent manner. *********** I was finally able to understand how the tension works. The problem I had was that the coil on the plastic tension part, had gone towards the back, making the tension very loosely. I also noticed that the screws were not put in straight, making it impossible to tighten. Once I took the parts out and readjusted the coil and screws, it is possible to have a very nice tight cake, as it supposed to be. This is a great tool to have.

Works great for ‘fine to sport weight’ (1-3 size). Not so good on worsted and bulky yarns.

I received this email from Caydo after I complained that they would not show this being used with a swift. Number 6 is the deal-breaker for me!! I would not have purchased! “Dear valued customer, This is Caydo Customer Care, thank you for choosing Caydo to be a part of your life. We have the following suggestions for you to use our yarn winder properly. 1. Please use the yarn winder on a stable table to reduce the noise caused by table vibrations. The machine is electric but not fully automatic, so it may require hand feeding when in use. 2. If the yarn holder is not properly secured, it may fly out during operation. Therefore, please make sure that the yarn holder is firmly in place before turning on the machine. 3. We suggest you straighten the yarn to prevent tangling before winding. If the yarn gets stuck or tangled, the device will stop to protect both the machine and the yarn. You can untie the yarn, then turn the knob off and on again. 4. It is difficult for the machine to wind (super) bulky or too thin yarns. Bulky yarns may cause the machine to get stuck and unable to wind, or cause the machine to emit a harsh sound. Please choose the suitable yarns. We recommend Blanket Yarn(≤ 7mm), Chenille Yarn, Cotton Yarn (50%-100%), Carpet yarn, Ice bar yarn, Cream Yarn. 5. This yarn winder is powered by a USB-C cable that comes with it. Any other Type-C charging cable can also power the machine. 6. The yarn winder is not suitable for use with Swift.”

I very quickly decided to return this. I watched several positive YouTube reviews and thought it would be great. The price was discounted too which was a plus. I tried to wind 1 skein of merino sock weight yarn using my swift. I had to play with the speed a lot and definitely couldn’t leave it unattended. It snagged and stopped several times, so I’d untangle and start again, but it would move the starting place of the cake around on the post each time. If you look at my picture, it looks like it started in several different places and my cake was more of a bumpy log. Once I finished winding it, I decided to try winding it again but from the cake since it was a mess. I wanted to give the winder the benefit of the doubt and I thought I needed the learning curve, but it was just as bad the second time I started to wind it a third time and again it just kept tangling and starting the cake at different positions I was concerned about the integrity of the yarn at that point because it does pull tight between the tensioners and the post, so I stopped and used my manual winder to finish. Not to mention that this was close to 4 hours after I started because of all the starts and stops. It might work well with DK or worsted weight yarns, and I’m giving 2 stars because I didn’t try those weights of yarns. I saw one review that said the company does not recommend using a swift with this winder. I use a lot of yarn purchased in hanks, so that is definitely a dealbreaker for me. Depending on what kind of yarn you buy, you could be investing a lot of money in it. I just didn’t find this to be a product I’d want to use on my investment. One more thing, it does not come with a plug, just a USB cord. And it was pretty short. I had to run an extension cord to the spot where I needed to set up the winder.

Product is durable and easy to use. I had a problem with the initial winder, but customer service was awesome and immediately responded. The new one came in quickly and they gave me a free upgrade. I highly recommend using this company.
